    Mr Seggie’s family has released a statement following the father-of-two’s death. 

    It said: “Everyone loved him, he always had a smile on his face and was always there supporting his family.

    "He was our best friend and our hero, and now we don’t have him.

    “We are totally devastated and will miss him greatly. We just want him to walk back through the door.”

    A 31-year-old man has been arrested, external on suspicion of the murder of a man who was found dead in Mackworth.

    Geoff Seggie, 59, was found at a house in Marylebone Crescent on Thursday.

    As we told you this morning the clean-up of an oil spillage will begin today at Cromford Canal.

    Volunteers from Derbyshire Wildlife Trust will be working alongside the Environment Agency.

    It's not clear where the oil, which was discovered on Thursday, came from, and the wildlife trust's Angela Mason told us it wouldn't be an easy job to clear it up.

    Philip Garnett, from Bolton, is a keen bird watcher and came down to the centre this morning.

    “We get a few Asian birds every year but not this species. I’ve never seen one. I’ve been to Asia about 20 times and have never seen one. It’s so rare.

    Colin Higginson, centre manager of Dukes Barn, said: "Thousands have flocked to the area. It’s bizarre, I’ve never seen anything like it.

    "I have been told it has flown in from Asia and probably joined some other thrushes. I’ve been told it’s only been in the country three times so it’s very, very rare.”

    Flocks of people have showed up at the Dukes Barn activity centre in the Peak District to catch a glimpse of a rare bird called a Dusky thrush.

    The bird usually breeds eastwards from central Siberia but has now been found in Derbyshire.

    An inquest has concluded the death of a senior Derbyshire police officer was a "cry for help" which went wrong.

    The body of Chief Inspector Tim Frohwein was found in remote countryside near Buxton in November 2013.

    Coroner Robert Hunter recorded the death as misadventure.

    Animal rights activists have criticised the use of reindeer at this weekend's Christmas Market in Ilkeston.

    Organisers say the company providing the animals has over ten years experience, the animals will have access to food and water and will be able to move away from the public.

    But David Otieno, from Derby Animal Rights, said it was cruel to display the animals in this way.

    Work starts this morning to clear an oil spill from the Cromford Canal near High Peak Junction. 

    Special booms have been placed in the canal by the Environment Agency to collect the oil since it was spotted late on Thursday.
