    Historian John Easter has researched the life of Alice in the Bacon Box and said she became a minor tourist attraction.

    He said: "It's something that you're always aware of in Little Eaton, especially older families. Your grandparents knew about her and mine certainly did. 

    "She became quite famous during the 20 years she was living rough. People were starting to come out from Derby to see Alice."

    There are many Derbyshire local myths and legends - and this week we have been looking into Alice in the Bacon Box.

    Alice lived rough in Little Eaton towards the end of the 19th Century and the beginning of the 20th. 

    She became a local celebrity - becoming the face of thousands of postcards and lived in a box that once contained meat.

    Police want to speak to a man after a number of women reported being touched inappropriately , externalin Derby's Cathedral Quarter.

    He is described as slim, around 5ft 9ins tall, believed to be in his early 20s and was wearing glasses.

    Derbyshire County Council's approved plans to charge people to dump certain types of waste at its tips.

     A £3 charge will apply to demolition waste - items such as builders' rubble, tiles and plasterboard.

    Lawand's family has appealed the decision and it will be heard at the High Court. However, it is not yet known when the case will take place.

    Friends of the family have started an online petition called: "Give Lawand a chance to communicate", external. It has gained more than 10,000 signatures.

    Speaking about Lawand's case, a Home Office spokesman said: "It is only fair that we do not shoulder the burden of asylum claims that should rightly be considered by other countries.

    "Asylum seekers should claim in the first safe country they arrive in. Where there is evidence that an asylum seeker is the responsibility of another European country we will seek to return them there."

    Lawand now attends the specialist education school Royal School for the Deaf Derby.

    The school's headteacher, Helen Shepherd, told the BBC in December he had made "exceptional progress".

    "Lawand's family are understandably devastated that they are being deported," she said after the latest decision.

    Lawand Hamadamin came to Derby after spending a year in a refugee camp in France.  

    His family travelled to Greece, Germany and France, then hid in the back of a lorry to get to the UK.
