    Plans to renovate a tower block in Gedling have been put on hold in the wake of the Grenfell Tower block fire in London.

    Residents in Walton Court have been told in a letter by Gedling Homes that proposals to add new cladding have been postponed until the end of an inquiry into the massive fire - which has so far claimed the lives of at least 30 people.

    A statement from the housing association said: “Please be assured that this work (installing new external cladding) is on hold until the outcome of the full investigation at Grenfell Tower and we will keep you fully informed.”

    The association also sent out advice to the residents of the tower block on what to do in the case of a fire.

    Officers found blood in every room of a house following the murder of a woman and the attempted murder of a man in Nottinghamshire.

    Three weapons were also recovered and blood stains were found on front doors in Gleneagles Drive, Nottinghamshire Police said.

    Pawel Lupa, of the same address, stabbed his partner Aleksandra Mrozik (below), who died on the way to the hospital. He also stabbed Wojcek Bocek.

    Mr Bocek told police he had been punched and stabbed by Lupa after they had had an argument.

    He said he tried to escape from Lupa after he'd been hit with a metal pipe.

    Mr Bocek was treated in hospital for 16 separate stab and slash-type injuries.

    Police believe a 49-year-old man who has gone missing in Long Eaton may be sleeping rough.

    David Hutchinson had been staying at an address in Main Street but has not been seen since Wednesday.

    Train services are currently unable to travel between Nottingham and Langley Mill because of an obstruction on the line, East Midlands Trains has said.

    A statement on the firm's website, external said: "Where possible our trains will divert via Derby and will be unable to call at Ilkeston, Langley Mill or Alfreton."

    A motorcyclist has died after being involved in a crash with a car transporter in Leicestershire this morning.

    Police said, external the crash happened close to a lay-by on the A4304 between North Kilworth and Walcote at about 06:45 BST.

    The biker, 22, died at the scene but the transporter driver was uninjured.

    The road is expected to stay closed for several hours while police investigations are carried out.

    Uttoxeter swimmer and Rio gold medallist Adam Peaty says the International Olympic Committee (IOC) made a mistake by not including three new 50m sprint events for Tokyo 2020.

    The IOC said last week that men's 800m and women's 1500m freestyle races would be added to the swimming programme.

    Peaty, who won 100m breaststroke gold at last summer's Olympics, was in favour of including 50m races in breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly.

    This poor starving kitten, suffering from fleas and ear mites, was "thrown out like rubbish" when only a couple of months old.

    The black kitten, called Pickle and aged eight to 10 weeks, was rescued from a bin near a children's play area in Litton Road, Mansfield.

    Paula Jones, from the RSPCA, said: “She was undernourished and in a very thin condition, suffering from fleas and ear mites.

    “I don’t believe she could have entered the bin on her own so it would appear as though she was dumped there by someone.”

    Put out the bunting... it may have taken three months but the new pound coin can finally be used in pay machines at council-run car parks in the Derbyshire Dales.

    The district council said: "We would of course have liked the conversion to happen earlier, but there is a continuing huge demand on the company doing this conversion work across the whole of the UK.

    A woman stabbed to death by her partner was comforted by a neighbour as she lay bleeding on her doorstep, Nottingham Crown Court heard.

    Aleksandra Mrozik was knifed by Pawel Lupa, 41, at their home in Gleneagles Drive, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, in July last year.

    This morning, Lupa was jailed for life with a minimum of 23 years for Ms Mrozik's murder and the attempted murder of Wojcek Bocek.

    Defending Lupa, Peter Joyce QC said all three of them were heavy drinkers.

    “I’ve never seen a greater consumption of alcohol in any case."

    He added Lupa and Ms Mrozik had a “loving relationship” before the murder.

    Judge Gregory Dickinson said: “You showed a callous disregard for her.”

    Three men have been taken to hospital with knife injuries following a disturbance in Nottingham city centre, external early this morning.

    Police said two 23-year-old men and a 21-year-old man are being treated for non life-threatening injuries to their legs following the incident in Goose Gate at about 03:20.

    Pollution levels in Kibworth have reached more than double the UN recommended limit, it's been revealed.

    It's led to the Harborough District Council making the A6 through the town an Air Quality Management Area.

    A man found guilty of stabbing his partner to death and attempting to murder another man has been jailed for life.

    Pawel Lupa, 41, of Gleneagles Drive, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, will serve a minimum term of 23 years.

    Lupa was convicted yesterday of the murder of Aleksandra Mrozik and the attempted murder of Wojcek Bocek on 16 July last year.
