Hurricane Maria has made landfall in Puerto Rico today, the latest storm to batter the Caribbean, hot on the heels of the recent damage caused by Hurricane Irma. That devastated other islands earlier this month, leaving at least 37 people dead and causing billions of dollars worth of damage.
Genevieve and Noel Stewart-Smith have only recently returned to Aspley from St Maarten after witnessing first-hand the damage caused by Irma, their holiday snaps veering from idyllic blue skies to scenes of destruction.
They said the atmosphere as they waited for the storm to pass with other guests in a boarded-up lobby was "one of sheer terror".

Quote MessageThey boarded up the lobby, it was pitch black, so all you could hear was the wind and the devastation going on around you. You could hear car alarms going off as they were being lifted up and turned over."
