We've just heard from Simon Mansfield from the Highways Agency - he says the A1 northbound near Colsterworth may be open as early as 16.00.
The road's been closed since the early hours of this morning after a fatal crash between a car and a lorry.
There's currently a diversion via the A606 and A607 which goes through Melton - something Mr Mansfield said was "not ideal".
He told BBC Radio Lincolnshire the closure had been necessary to resurface the road after the incident. Lincolnshire Police have not released details of the victims of the crash, who were travelling in the car.
The two people who were travelling in the lorry have been arrested and are being questioned on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

A prisoner who threatened to kill a cop, judge and prison officers and have sex with their corpses is appealing his "unprecedented" 45-year sentence.
Richard Ford, 38, was serving a short term at Nottingham Prison for possessing a knife when he penned the sadistic letters in his cell.
He was charged with making threats to kill and handed the lengthy sentence after a judge voiced fears his fantasies could become a reality.
Ford, who has spent much of his adult life behind bars, appealed against the 45-year sentence at the Court of Appeal in London.
His solicitor told appeal judges despite the danger he posed, the term he received was "unprecedented and manifestly excessive".
Appeal court judge Lady Justice Hallett said Ford was "clearly highly dangerous" and the case was "all about protection of the public".
The appeal was then adjourned to allow a psychiatrist to evaluate whether a move to a mental institution would be the most appropriate action.
