Libraries were once a place for people to sit and read quietly but some have now adopted new approaches so they continue to attract more visitors.

Rattle, rhyme and roll, a popular music session for young families, is just one way to get more people to visit.

While libraries in other parts of the country are closing because of tightening budgets, there are still 60 in Nottinghamshire, and 19 in Nottingham.

Jackie Smith, assistant library manager in Beeston, said: "I think we have got to change if we want to be the hub of the community... people come to us for all sorts of things. We are not just about books, we are about a lot more now."

Dean of the Cathedral David Monteith told the BBC it's down to the discovery of King Richard III three years ago.

He said: "Most people who come from any distance come because of the Richard story. Of course when they're here they get a much richer story about Leicester and Leicestershire but Richard is the hook that brings them in."

People living in a "narrow street" are demanding action after suffering years of damage to their vehicles.

Residents of Waldeck Road in Carrington say the street is not wide enough and emergency services have struggled to get through in the past.

They claim two vehicles were dented by a passing horsebox this week.

Diana Peasey, who lives on the street, said: "It is quite deceptive, you come down the road and think yeah I can go down there okay... but it gets clogged up and then suddenly there is nowhere to go."

Nottingham City Council says it is working with residents to help alleviate the issue.
