    Westfield Junior School in Hinckley tweeted, external that it had been vandalised and parents were being told about the closure via text.

    The school added that it, external had appreciated all offers from parents to help clear up.

    A motorcyclist is seriously ill in hospital following a crash with a car in the Peak District.

    The man, in his 70s, was injured when his Triumph motorbike and a Ford Ka collided near the junction of Back Lane and the A515 in Newhaven yesterday afternoon.

    Police said he was airlifted to hospital in Derby where he remains in a serious condition.

    Prisoners who should be in cells on their own are sharing accommodation, according to an ex-inmate at Nottingham Prison.

    The accusations have been made anonymously to BBC Radio Nottingham after a month in which five people have died at the jail.

    The former inmate said: "There are a lot of dangerous prisoners that are meant to be in a cell on their own because they are a high risk prisoner.

    "But they are being made to share cells with other people and this can heighten the risk, it is not supposed to be like that."

    The Ministry of Justice said there is no intelligence to support the allegations and it is working to improve support for vulnerable prisoners and increase staffing levels.

    Leicester Tigers head coach Matt O'Connor has admitted his side are in a "good place" after victory against Newcastle extending their winning run in the league to five games.

    Telusa Veainu and Ben Youngs scored tries inside the first 20 minutes as the Tigers established a 14-3 lead.

    Vereniki Goneva crossed for the Falcons just before the break and a Toby Flood penalty early in the second half reduced the deficit to a single point.

    But three George Ford penalties and a try by Jonny May (pictured) helped Leicester pull away and move up to third in the table.

    A person recently phoned 999 in Nottinghamshire to report a door was jammed shut in their house.

    They said it was an emergency because the room "had a lot of belongings inside".

    The nuisance call was highlighted by Nottinghamshire Police as an example of the sort of timewasting that delays them in dealing with proper emergencies.

    Organisers of the Dinosaurs of China exhibition in Nottingham say more 120,000 people went to see it.

    The world exclusive event at Wollaton Hall came to an end yesterday after four months.

    It included the tallest dinosaur skeleton ever brought to the UK, as well as the remains of 26 others.

    Concerns have been raised about the prospect of another takeaway restaurant opening in Alvaston.

    If plans for a new Domino's Pizza on Shardlow Road are approved it would be the 19th takeaway in the suburb.

    Councillor Alan Graves said: "I feel there is a saturation of hot food and I think any more, impacts negatively on the viability of the centre.

    "If you have too many hot food shops, they tend to be open in the evening rather than the day - so in the day it looks like a ghost town."

    The mother of a backpacker who was stabbed to death in Australia has been to visit the hostel where her daughter died.

    Mia Ayliffe-Chung, 20, was killed at a workers' hostel in Queensland last year.

    Rosie Ayliffe, from Wirksworth, has since been campaigning for Australian farm work to be regulated, saying an "aggressive atmosphere" contributed to Mia's death.

    Broxtowe MP Anna Soubry has called on Commons leader Andrea Leadsom to make an urgent statement about tackling sexual harassment, following a series of allegations of inappropriate behaviour by MPs.

    She also said the idea of a new contractually-binding grievance procedure for all MPs and their staff, floated by Theresa May in a letter to the Speaker, was a good idea.

    The call for action follows reports that lists of MPs accused of misconduct are circulating in Westminster.

    A police force is releasing a series of short films to encourage victims to report rape as soon as possible, in the hope it will increase convictions.

    Leicestershire Police estimates that only 20% of rapes are reported to them, and only one in ten of these reports results in a conviction.

    However, if rapes are reported earlier, more evidence can be preserved.

    The films are being published on social media, external to reach audiences police might not normally be able to reach.

    A previous short film commissioned by the force about the murder of 15-year-old Kayleigh Haywood has been viewed more than three million times on YouTube, external.
