    This is the scene on the A38 northbound near Little Eaton after a lorry carrying loft insulation caught fire.

    Nobody was injured but one lane is closed while the emergency services clear everything up.

    A Romanian lorry driver has pleaded guilty to killing a 52-year-old man by driving recklessly on the A1 near Newark.

    Dorel Galan, from Essex, caused a six-vehicle crash on the northbound carriageway on 9 March.

    Council worker Ian Newell, from Lincolnshire, died at the scene.

    Galan also admitted two counts of using a false instrument, contrary to the Forgery and Counterfeiting Act 1981.

    The judge at Nottingham Crown Court told him he was facing prison when he is sentenced later.

    You've been having your say on Facebook, external after Bolsover MP Dennis Skinner demanded to know why homes in the north of England were being demolished for HS2 but were being protected by tunnels in the south.

    Chris Woodward said: "Well said Dennis. HS2 what a waste of public money (which supposedly we haven't got). The track we have at the moment is sufficient, who cares if you can get to London 10 minutes quicker!!"

    Staff and students from Kirk Hallam Community Academy & Sixth Form were evacuated following a fire this morning.

    A school statement said the blaze broke out in one of the poly tunnels at about 11:45.

    Headteacher Martin Ebbage said two fire engines attended and the cause of the blaze was being investigated.

    No-one was injured.

    More than 300 singers and musicians in Nottinghamshire have recorded a song to help a homelessness charity.

    Reach Out and Lend a Helping Hand, which was co-written by pupils from Kirkby Woodhouse Primary School and features six community choirs, has taken nine months to put together.

    The song has been released in aid of the Framework charity.

    Officers are appealing for information over teenager Jonah Willis-Read, who has been reported missing.

    A fish farm in Calverton has begun its huge annual task of restocking rivers and lakes across England.

    Bombardier said it was "delighted" to have been shortlisted alongside four other firms for a £2.75bn contract to build trains for HS2.

    In a statement, the Derby train maker said: "Bombardier has the unique capability to design, develop, build and maintain trains in Britain, so we are very excited by the chance to be part of this transformational project."

    The winning bidder is due to be announced in two years.

    A 48-hour dispersal order has come into force in Sneinton following two nights of trouble.

    Police arrested two men after a mass brawl involving about 20 people in Sneinton Dale on Monday evening.

    Officers are now investigating an attack at Top Market on Tuesday evening.

  13. Parents pay tribute to teenager 'stabbed to death'published at 12:10 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2017

    Police have named a 17-year-old boy, external who was killed in Leicester earlier this week.

    Rhys Singh Bahia died in hospital after being found injured in Ross Walk on Tuesday night. A post-mortem examination found he died as a result of knife wounds.

    A second 17-year-old also suffered non life-threatening knife injuries and is being treated in hospital.

    A 16-year-old who was arrested yesterday on suspicion of murder and attempted murder remains in police custody.

    In a statement, Rhys's parents said: “We have just lost our son, there is nothing that will bring him back. He was a much loved son and brother.

    "If you witnessed what happened please come forward and help the police. We would also ask that we have some privacy at this time so we can grieve.”

    We now have more information from Leicestershire Police, external on that raid at Aldi in Coalville.

    They said officers rushed to the Adcock Road store at 05:50 after thieves broke in and forced open a cash machine before taking money from inside.

    Det Sgt Jim Hatton said: “The investigation is in its early stages and we are carrying out any initial enquiries at the scene.

    “We believe the suspects made off in a vehicle and we would like to appeal to anyone who has any information about this vehicle to contact us."

  15. Appeal after 'elderly targeted in distraction thefts'published at 11:52 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2017

    CCTV footage of a man officers want to speak to in connection with a spate of distraction thefts targeting elderly people, external has been released.

    A 87-year-old woman managed to push a man away after he attempted to distract her in Carlton on Sunday, Nottinghamshire Police have said.

    On the previous day an 85-year-old man had money taken from him at an address also in Carlton.

    Two similar incidents happened on Monday and Tuesday in Ruddington and Toton.

    The force is linking these to three thefts in Sutton-in-Ashfield on 10 August when a man asked people to change a note for coins but instead snatched their wallets and purses.

    This is the scene at Aldi in Coalville which appears to have been attacked overnight.

    A window has been smashed and a vehicle has been cordoned off.

    Leicestershire Police told the Leicester Mercury the supermarket had a cash machine but they weren't sure if it had been targeted.

    The force told the BBC it would be releasing more details shortly.

  17. Terror suspect 'shopped for bomb ingredients at Asda'published at 11:15 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2017

    A court has been shown CCTV images of a Derby terror suspect visiting a supermarket to buy nail varnish remover to use in home-made explosives.

    Munir Mohammed, 36, is on trial at the Old Bailey accused of plotting a terror attack with Rowaida El-Hassan.

    The court was shown footage of Mohammed at Asda in Spondon on 1 December.

    On the advice of El-Hassan he had been looking for a type of nail varnish remover containing a chemical that could be used to make explosives.

    But prosecutor Anna Whyte QC told jurors a till receipt showed he had picked up the wrong product.

    The court was also shown CCTV stills of Mohammed looking for pressure cookers at Ace Discounts in Derby.

    Both defendants deny preparing terrorist acts between November 2015 and December 2016. The trial continues.

  19. Site chosen for new Coalville leisure centrepublished at 10:38 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2017

    Plans to build a replacement for Coalville's Hermitage Leisure Centre on council-owned land at the corner of Stephenson Way and Thornborough Road have been given the green light by councillors, external.

    North West Leicestershire District Council's cabinet agreed on the location after detailed site investigations concluded it was suitable.

    The authority said the 40-year-old Hermitage Leisure Centre would stay open until the new £20m centre was operational.

    It was also agreed the new centre would include an eight-lane 25m swimming pool, a learner pool, an eight-court sports hall plus a health and fitness suite.

    If the plans are ratified at a full council meeting, the authority will then seek out an operator to design, build and manage the leisure centre.

  20. Four arrests after M1 lorry chasepublished at 10:22 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2017

    Four men have been arrested, external after police tracked down a suspected stolen lorry and brought it to a stop.

    Derbyshire Police were alerted to the lorry by their Leicestershire counterparts who spotted it on the M1.

    Officers followed and stopped the lorry just off junction 30 before detaining four men who tried to run away.

    The men, from Yorkshire and aged between 23 and 45, are being questioned on suspicion of stealing a lorry.

    Derbyshire Police added the lorry may also have been involved with thefts from lorries across the East Midlands.
