    An "emaciated and injured" dog has been handed to the RSPCA after it was allegedly found dumped in Leicester.

    The dog, called Mango, had apparently been found wandering in Western Park with a green rope around his neck.

    The RSPCA has said the animal was "quite skinny" and "extremely nervous" when he arrived at the centre on 5 April.

    A photo's been released of a woman police want to speak to about a walk-in burglary in Hyson Green.

    A set of car keys were taken from a house in St Paul's Avenue at about 05:20 on 7 January and the car was subsequently stolen.

    Police said the vehicle was recovered in Wollaton a short time later. Call 101 if you recognise the woman.

    Details of the theft have only just been released.

    A 42-year-old man has been arrested over the attempted murder and rape of a woman in Ilkeston last year.

    Derbyshire Police said the man was detained yesterday on suspicion of attempted murder, rape, robbery and sexual assault and remains in police custody.

    The woman was assaulted on a residential street after getting off a bus in the town at about 04:00 on 26 November.

    Jozef Mordawska is also known by some as Captain America - this is because the owner of Bugtopia Zoo in Empingham can often be seen wearing the outfit at work.

    But while on holiday in Devon he became a real life superhero.

    On 5 April Jozef joined a search for an 11-year-old boy who had gone missing in the in the area of Wringcliff bay. He found him on rocks on the shore.

    To keep the boy calm Jozef used his Captain America persona. He told the BBC: "I literally said to him 'it's ok, my day job is Captain America aren't you lucky?' and I actually saw him breath a sigh of relief as soon as I said that."

    Jozef signalled to the lifeboat team which was on exercise in the area and came to the rescue, winching the boy from the beach and transferring him to a waiting air ambulance.

    Shopping centre owner Hammerson is hoping to pull out of an acquisition of rival firm Intu, owners of centres in Derby and Nottingham.

    Hammerson - which already runs Leicester's Highcross - previously announced plans for a £3.4bn takeover.

    But it is no longer urging shareholders to vote in favour of the acquisition in part because of "market concerns" surrounding the retail property market.

    A simple toast rack could make its owner a fortune when it goes under the hammer in Derbyshire next month.

    The unnamed seller, from Coalville, told Hansons Auctioneers the rack was bought by his wife's parents for next-to-nothing at a church auction in 1936.

    The seller was then informed by the firm's decorative arts specialist John Keightley (pictured) that the rack was a much sought-after piece by celebrated designer Christopher Dresser.

    Mr Keightley said: “I had seen his work before and recognised the toast rack design. That’s because one just like it has sold at Christie’s for £11,250. Others have sold for £4,000.

    “I was delighted as it is an original 1878 design and is embossed on the back with the words ‘Designed by Dr C Dresser’, which adds to its value.

    “I have put a modest estimate of £200-£400 on it as there is some slight damage but it could fetch far more thanks to its rarity and pedigree."

    The rack is due to be auctioned in Etwall on 19 June.

    A Big Issue seller says his sales have rocketed since he started accepting cashless payments with a card reader.

    Paul Snape, who sells the magazine in West Bridgford, spent £33 of his proceeds on the device earlier this month.

    The 47-year-old told BBC Radio Nottingham: "A lot of businesses do it so I thought I'd do it too. Some people are shocked when I tell them I've got a card machine now. I've picked up a few new customers from it."

    A man who was serving a five-year sentence for making threats to kill has gone on the run from Sudbury open prison, external.

    Police said Jason Hatton, 43, was jailed in April 2017 but absconded on Sunday.

    He's been described as 5ft 9in (1.75m) tall with brown hair and an angel tattoo on his back.

    A woman from Sherwood got the shock of her life when she was charged £930 for a single banana.

    Bobbie Gordon had chosen the fruit as part of an online order from Asda that arrived last night.

    The bill should have been about £100 but the banana blunder saw the delivery driver hand over a receipt totalling more than £1,000.

    She told BBC Radio Nottingham: "I was out and when I came home my husband told me 'you won't believe what's happened'.

    "We thought it was just a silly mistake and they couldn't possibly be charging us for it but then we got a text from my credit card company saying they detected fraud and that they had tried to charge me for it."

    The stunned shopper stopped the payment but said it was too late in the evening to contact Asda's customer service team to straighten things out.

    She said: "I'll talk to them [Asda] today and try to get it sorted out. I've told my seven-year-old daughter to cherish every mouthful. Hopefully it'll be especially tasty."

    Friends and family have left tributes to mark the birthday of one of the five people who died in the explosion in Leicester.

    Balloons and banners were tied to a tree at the memorial site to mark what would have been Shane Ragoobeer's 19th birthday yesterday.

    He died alongside his girlfriend Leah, his mother Mary and brother Sean. Shop worker Viktorija Ijevleva also died in the explosion on Hinckley Road in February.

    Three men accused of causing the explosion have denied arson and manslaughter.

    Two men arrested yesterday following raids at two suspected brothels in Derby remain in custody, police have said, external.

    The pair, aged 27 and 32, were detained on suspicion of conspiracy to traffic with a view to exploitation after officers raided houses in Uttoxeter New Road and Violet Street.

    Five women are being offered specialist support at a reception centre after being identified as suspected victims of exploitation.

    Police said brothel closure orders had been secured for both houses that were raided.

    A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, external following an assault in Eastwood that left another man needing hospital treatment.

    Notts Police said the victim, in his 20s, suffered non-life-threatening injuries during an altercation in Nottingham Road at about 20:00.

    They've asked anyone who witnessed the attack to get in touch.
