    Radcliffe-on-Trent singer Vince Eager has recorded a duet with his old friend and fellow hit maker, the late Billy Fury, external.

    The Symphonic Sound of Fury features re-mixed hits of the pop star's top hits including Halfway to Paradise. Vince was thrilled to be asked to record the vocals for the iconic tune which reached number three in the British pop charts in 1961.

    Vince and Billy shared a flat in the 1960s. Billy died in 1983.

    Boat lovers from across the country are mooring up on Nottingham's embankment for the city's annual Riverside Festival this weekend.

    Among them is Grant Williams, known as Captain Grunt, from Sutton-in-Ashfield who lives aboard his 57ft long narrow boat named Nellie 2.

    The Riverside Festival, external attracts thousands of people each year and features live music, a fun fair, street theatre, the famous duck race and the Dragon Boat Challenge, external.

  3. Could next year's Bakewell Show be the last?published at 08:45 British Summer Time 1 August 2018

    Today would have marked the 199th Bakewell Show but it's been cancelled after the showground flooded last year.

    Next year's 200th anniversary could well be its last if the problems with drainage are not addressed.

    Show manager, Janet Bailey said: "It depends on a lot of factors.

    "It's the weather and how the ground holds up, whether we're able to do repairs to the ground to make it more usable than it is now.

    "Bear in mind this is a floodplain, if the river's overflowing our drains have got nowhere to go because they all drain in to the river."

    People who leave their car engines idling could be fined under plans being drawn up by Nottingham City Council.

    The council has asked the government for the power to impose the sanction on people who refuse to turn off their engine when asked.

    It would then target drivers in areas where air pollution is high, including outside schools and at taxi ranks as part of a scheme to improve the quality of Nottingham's air.

    The city council has been told by the government it has avoided having to impose a clean air zone after introducing a raft of measures including reducing bus emissions and replacing old taxis.

    Councillors said they do not know how much the fine will be, which streets will be targeted or how it will be enforced.

    Bradgate Park staff are hoping to re-open their car parks this morning after travellers moved on to the site yesterday.

    About 14 caravans and cars arrived at the Hunts Hill car park on Monday when they were served notice to leave.

    They had left the site by 14:00 and the Bradgate Park Trust said it intends to re-open the car parks this morning.

    A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a man who was assaulted at home after being involved in a car crash in Nottingham.

    Father-of-two Stephen Walsh was found dead at his home in Blenheim Avenue in Mapperley at about 05:55 on Monday.

    He had been involved in a crash in nearby Newstead Avenue between 22:00 and 22:30 on Sunday night.

    Police believe he did not stop and drove home where he was assaulted.

    Mr Walsh, 37, who was driving a Lexus when the crash happened, suffered serious head injuries in the attack.

    Investigations will begin today into a large fire in Mansfield last night.

    Firefighters were called to the derelict Bombardier building, near the railway station, at about 19:20.

    It led to around half a dozen homes being evacuated around the blaze in Victoria Street and people were advised to keep their windows and doors shut.

    Mansfield fire station manager, Martin Bills, said it had been an "intense" fire that burnt through the three-storey former factory.

    "The roof's come through and taken out all the floors so we've got a brick and stone shell standing there now," he said.

    "It's been used by homeless people in the past but it's recently been blocked up secure over the last few months."
