    Police in Ashby have been granted special dispersal powers ahead of Ashby Statutes next weekend.

    It will affect these areas of the town during the fair.

    From 19:00 on Friday until 19:00 Sunday, officers will be able to move on anyone aged 10 and above who is considered to be causing a nuisance or committing a crime.

    The force has said there have been issues with antisocial behaviour at the event in previous years.

    The passports and residence permits of two men applying for a premises licence were published online by Leicester City Council in another data breach.

    The two applicants' details appeared on the council's website alongside paperwork ahead of a licensing sub-committee meeting on Friday.

    Conservative city councillor Ross Grant criticised the Labour-run authority. He said: "It all just seems very familiar and I can't see how anyone with an understanding of data protection could have made this mistake.

    "It seems there is a culture of data protection issues and lack of training."

    It is the fourth known data breach at the council this year.

    A city council spokesman said: "We will be looking at how this happened, but at this stage it appears to be down to human error."

    The applicants, who are both from Afghanistan, were applying for a late night refreshment licence for Pizza Magic on Fosse Road South which was refused.

    A £4.9m revamp of Derby's historic Market Hall roof is on time and on budget according to the city council.

    It's nearly six months since work began.

    So far 12 miles of scaffolding has been erected and a temporary roof has been installed to keep the Grade II listed building warm and free of leaks.

    During the trial of the three men, jurors heard how they were part of a gang that had spent weeks planning to rob a safe at Mr Jogiya's shop in Leicester that contained £200,000 worth of gold jewellery.

    The court heard the men needed information from Mr Jogiya to enter the shop, turn off the burglar alarm and access the safe.

    They tortured him to hand over his keys and code for the safe and then dumped his body in Stoughton.

    Mr Jogiya suffered a total of 27 injuries including broken ribs, wounds to his face, hands and arms, and had died from a major brain injury caused by a severe assault to his head.

    On dumping his body one of the men returned to the shop dressed in a burkha and used the keys to enter, but was defeated by a 12-hour delay on the safe's lock and couldn't access the contents.

    During the sentencing of three men responsible for the death of jeweller Ramniklal Jogiya, a statement was read by one of his sons.

    Describing the difficulty in having to identify their father's battered body, he said: "What we did know immediately was that he had suffered because we could see terrible injuries to his face.”

    “Just thinking of what he had to endure has haunted us during the day and sometimes during the night," he added.

    “Our dad was a caring, loving, joyful, peaceful and content gentleman; a family man.

    “Our father did not deserve this to happen to him and we wouldn’t wish it on anyone else.”

    Three men have been detained for their part in the death of Leicester jeweller Ramniklal Jogiya.

    Mr Jogiya, 74, was killed after being kidnapped and bundled into a van near his shop on 24 January. His body was found the next day in a country lane in Stoughton.

    The men, all from Leicester, have been sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court this afternoon.

    • Thomas Jervis, 24, who was found guilty of Mr Jogiya's murder has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 33 years
    • Charles Mcauley, 20, also found guilty of murder last month, has been sentenced to life with a minimum of 30 years
    • Callan Reeve, 20, was convicted of manslaughter and has been detained for 16 years

    All three were handed a 12-year sentence for kidnap and robbery which will run alongside their other sentences. Reeve and Mcauley will be in a young offenders institution until they turn 21.

    A woman was shocked to find three cats and some pig body parts in a bag in her horse field in Derbyshire.

    One of the cats, found near Stony Houghton, near Pleasley, was still alive so Lindsey Holmes took her home to feed her and call the RSPCA.

    The female tabby was taken to a vets in Matlock and was found to be dehydrated and suffering from acute renal failure.

    It was decided the cat should be put to sleep.

    Rachel Leafe from the RSPCA said: "It is disgusting, we don’t know if the two cats were dead when they were left in the carrier bag or not. The poor tabby which was found alive was in such a bad way he must have suffered terribly.

    “It is despicable that someone could do this and I am keen to trace the person responsible.”

    Police found her body after forcing entry to her locked flat.

    Foster was arrested in Mansfield Woodhouse.

    He was convicted on Friday after a trial at Nottingham Crown Court.

    Today he was sentenced to a minimum of 16 years for her murder.

    An investigation into a pushchair getting trapped in tram doors in Nottingham has found staff placed "inappropriate reliance" on door closing technology.

    It happened on 15 December last year at the Radford Road tram stop when the plastic rain cover of the empty pram got caught between closing doors.

    The pushchair was dragged to the next tram stop at Hyson Green Market, where it was crushed against the kerb. No-one was injured.

    The report also found staff were unaware of the importance of the final door check and that training of travel officers was "inadequate".

    The Rail Accident Investigation Branch, external found the rain cover was too thin to trigger the system which automatically reopens the doors.

    The tram driver also failed to see the pushchair was in an unsafe position when doing the final visual door check and other staff at the tram stop were unable to stop the tram departing.

    The driver was unaware the pushchair was attached to the tram until he arrived at the next stop.

    Police in Long Eaton are trying to find anyone who saw a fire at a service station last month.

    Derbyshire Constabulary said they believe the fire on Friday, 31 August was started deliberately.

    It is believed to have started in a car stored behind the Longmoor Road service station and caused "extensive damage" to two further cars before spreading to a nearby building.

    Fire and police are working together to investigate who was responsible.

    PC Tim Phillips said “Fortunately, no one was injured and a further stroke of luck was the fuel tanks at the service station were completely empty due to the refurbishment of the site, otherwise the consequences could have been catastrophic."

    A woman is trying to find the mystery "angel" who helped her husband after he fell ill by the side of the road last week.

    Shelly Hewson from Nottingham posted on the Spotted: Loughborough Facebook page, external trying to find the man who saw her husband, Ian, vomiting and took him to the nearby urgent care unit.

    Ian pulled off the M1 because of the pain and parked by the side of the main road into Loughborough.

    "Ian was in an incredible amount of pain and was on the verge of collapse," she said.

    "This man took the time to make sure he was safe and he was OK, and took him to the unit. His selfless nature just puts my faith back in humanity."

    Her husband is currently at the QMC having treatment for a kidney stone, but said he was in so much pain he didn't think to get the name or number of his helper.

    She said the Facebook post had received thousands of shares from across the UK and she had been "overwhelmed" by the response from well-wishers and the generous comments.

    Claire Lomas has started her latest incredible challenge.

    The 38-year-old, who is paralysed from the chest down following a horse riding accident in 2007, has already completed the London Marathon thanks to the use of a bionic suit as well as using a hand-bike to cycle 400 miles between Nottingham and London.

    This weekend she rode a motorbike round Silverstone, the start of her attempt to ride around nine British Superbike tracks.

    Five teenage boys have appeared in court charged with the murder of a man in Nottingham.

    Twenty-year-old Esrom Ghide (below) died in hospital after being stabbed in Hawksley Road, Hyson Green last Wednesday evening.

    Three 14-year-old boys and two 16-year-old boys have appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court this morning.

    The case has been adjourned to Nottingham Crown Court where the teenagers are due to appear this afternoon.

    Meanwhile, the police have also arrested another 16-year-old boy on suspicion of murder and attempting to pervert the course of justice. He remains in police custody.

    A Mansfield family say their 11-year-old son has been left "traumatised" after their pet dog was stolen in a burglary.

    Lola, a schnoodle, was taken on the evening of Friday, 31 August during the burglary in Chesterfield Road North, Mansfield.

    The family said: “Our 11-year-old son is particularly traumatised and really missing Lola. She is totally devoted to us and she will be traumatised by this separation."

    They said her dog collar had been found and posted back to them, but the poster had not provided any details.

    Asking about train times, when their car insurance expires and for advise on dealing with rats are just some of the calls Nottinghamshire Police have dealt with in the past few weeks.

    The force said people had been calling the 999 emergency number to ask these questions, which had potentially delayed staff from responding to genuine emergencies.

    Other calls included someone asking why they had a power cut, asking for the call handler to book them a taxi and wanting to talk to them about some lost property.

    The force said people should use the 999 number "responsibly".

    They said: "Please think before dialling and only call 999 when life is in danger, someone is seriously injured, someone is using or threatening to use violence, a crime is in progress, there is serious damage being caused to property or whenever else an immediate police response is required."
