An elderly woman was left in appalling conditions in her home due to delays and poor communication.

The council has been criticised by the independent ombudsman over what happened to the woman, who has not been named.

Despite getting frequent visits from health workers, the woman's home contained urine-stained furniture and carpets, and there was a problem with mice.

She was committed to hospital with sepsis and died just days later.

Nottinghamshire County Council, which was responsible for the woman's social care, says it has apologised unreservedly, is learning lessons, and will pay £400 in compensation to the woman's daughter.

Ideas about changing council services in Leicestershire are set to be published next month and will be discussed ahead of possible implementation.

Senior Conservatives at the county council announced plans to scrap all of the district councils in Leicestershire and create one unitary authority for the entire county.

The Tories have said they will listen to all suggestions regarding the proposed changes and will also form a cross-party group to discuss the ideas and have relaxed their previously deadline of December to make a decision about the future of the authority following a motion by the Liberal Democrats.

Simon Galton, who's the leader of the opposition Lib Dems at County Hall, has welcomed the proposals.

Mr Galton said: "Where we are now is we’re going to have a more inclusive process. It’s not just going to be proposal drawn up behind closed doors."

Magistrates have also ordered the 30-year-old, from Beechdale Road, in Nottingham to pay a £395 fine, £85 police costs and £40 victim surcharge. He's also been disqualified from driving for six months.

Vlad had pleaded guilty to using a mobile phone while driving a van.

He had a complete disregard to what the video showed, the persons involved and the wider impact it would have on the victim’s family and friends. The footage should never have existed in the first place, but I’m glad that the family can now try to move on from this without having any more unnecessary grief inflicted on them, by knowing that it won’t be circulated any further.”
