    A man charged with five counts of rape, kidnap, false imprisonment and assault with intent to commit robbery appeared at Derby Crown Court earlier.

    Samuel Dodsworth, 36, of Grange Street, Derby, has been accused of committing the eight offences against two women aged 52 and a 75, on 3 September.

    The judge adjourned the case today.

    Mr Dodsworth, who was remanded in custody, is due to appear for a trial and plea hearing on 8 November.

    Good news - the goal nets that were stolen from community football club in Leicester are going to be replaced following an appeal on social media.

    The company Mark Harrod, that supplies sports equipment, saw Leicester Nirvana's post on Twitter and has offered to replace them for free.

    Mark Harrod has said the new nets are being sent over tomorrow and promised they will be with them in time for a big match on Saturday.

  12. Armed police arrest three men after 'gun fired'published at 17:21 British Summer Time 3 October 2018

    Armed police have been dealing with a disturbance in the Manton area of Worksop where there were reports of a gun being shot.

    Police said the officers and a helicopter were sent to Pelham Street at about 11:30. Three men, aged 38, 35 and 30 were arrested at the scene - they are now being questioned.

    No one is known to have been injured and police have said: "There is no ongoing risk to members of the public".

    BBC Sport says Andre Wisdom, Tom Huddlestone, Tom Lawrence (pictured) and Jack Marriott are all pushing for inclusion in Frank Lampard's side for the game at Pride Park.

    The visitors come into the game on the back of a five-game winning run in league and cup.

    Scientists at Loughborough University have developed means of quickly testing possible victims of a chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear disaster or attack.

    The tests include breath and saliva analysis and drones that can measure toxic fumes or radiation in the air.

    The research is part of a European Union-funded project called TOXI-Triage, external involving 19 teams across the EU.

    The bomb squad was called to a school in Buxton yesterday, external after potentially dangerous chemicals were discovered in a science block store room.

    Buxton Community School's headteacher said the chemicals were removed from the school and "evaporated in a controlled manner" on playing fields at about 18:30 yesterday.

    The school was open as normal today.

    These pictures reveal the extent of conditions eight people from six different families lived in when crammed into one three-bedroomed house, a council said.

    North West Leicestershire District Council said some of the tenants in the Coalville property had to live in the loft with a collapsible ladder the only means of escape.

    The council prosecuted David Sansom, 53, of Waterworks Road, Coalville last month, after he turned a home into a house in multiple occupancy (HMO) without being licensed.

    He appeared at Leicester Magistrates' Court on 19 September, where he pleaded guilty to one charge of not having an HMO licence and seven of failing to comply with housing regulations.

    He was ordered to pa £1,160 in fines, £1,911 in legal costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

    The council said that in his defence, Samson hadn’t realised so many people would move in to each of the rooms as he rented them out and that work was planned to improve living conditions in the home.

    Police have said they are dealing with an "incident" on Pelham Street in the Manton area of Worksop.
