  2. Tool return to the UK to headline Download 2019published at 15:37 British Summer Time 23 October 2018

    The headliners for next year's Download Festival has been announced.

    Tool will be making their first UK appearance since 2007, and their first at Donington since 2006, when they close out the Sunday of next June's festival.

    Def Leppard will headline on Friday and Slipknot will take top spot on Saturday.

    Investigators continue to comb Forest Park and Ride for evidence this afternoon, where a man died after he was hit by a car.

    He taken to hospital in the early hours of this morning but was pronounced dead on arrival.

    Three men have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

    A man who was treated in hospital for gunshot wounds to his leg is now in police custody, Leicestershire Police has confirmed.

    The force said a 24-year-old man had fled the scene when officers attended a business premises on Equity Road in Leicester, last night

    A spokesman said the man discharged a firearm in Beaconsfield Road.

    The man, who has since been discharged from hospital, has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

    The police added: "Due to police being in attendance at the time the man was injured a mandatory referral is due to be made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC)."

    Police say they're concerned for the safety of a 16-year-old boy from Nottingham who's been missing for nearly 48 hours.

    Connor Cooper, who disappeared from his home in the Lenton area at about 17:00 on Sunday, is known to have links to Newark and Doncaster.

    Officers stopped the man at 00:40 when they saw an Audi A3 which had been reported as stolen driving down Lansdown Grove, Long Eaton.

    Searching the car, they found a baseball bat and a small amount of drugs.

    The man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving on a provisional licence and without insurance, theft, possession of an offensive weapon and drugs possession.

    A mother who wrongly accused an innocent man of attempting to abduct her young son has been given a suspended sentence, external.

    Leicestershire Police said Kerry Lount, 38, of Ford Rise, Leicester, told them a man had approached her child and tried to take him in Wigston town centre in October 2016.

    She then circulated a photo of the man on social media along with details of the alleged incident.

    However, a police investigation found there was no truth to the claims.

    Lount pleaded guilty to making a false statement at Leicester Crown Court yesterday and was given an eight-month sentence, suspended for a year.

    A further charge of perverting the course of justice will lie on file.

    Investigating officer Nick Robbins said: "[The accused man] had only been in the country for a matter of days when this incident occurred and was left extremely distressed by what happened."

    The inquest into the death of Ed Farmer has heard how students "felt anxious and nervous" at Newcastle University's Agriculture Society "initiation-style" event.

    Mr Farmer, 20, from Leicester, died at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary in December 2016, after attending the night out where students were "strongly encouraged" to drink high volumes of alcohol in a short period of time.

    Giving evidence, Guy Barker, a second year student at the time of the incident said some first year students "felt anxious and nervous" at the event but were not forced to attend and could leave at any time.

    Mr Barker also described how some first year students had their head shaved at the event, were sprayed with paint used to mark stock and bobbed for apples in a mixture of urine and alcohol.

    The hearing was also told that students were encouraged to drink in alleyways and first year students were passed between four and six double or treble vodkas.

    Mr Barker said he understood initiation events were banned by the university because they were "dangerous and put a lot of pressure on people".

    A £15m building at Wilsthorpe Community School in Long Eaton has been officially opened by Erewash MP Maggie Throup.

    The new-look school, which has about 800 pupils, welcomed students for the first time last month but a plaque has now been added to celebrate its completion.

    Shopping centre owner Intu says it has seen the value of its properties drop in the wake of difficult retail conditions.

    The group, which owns malls in Derby and Nottingham and is the target of a takeover by a consortium led by John Whittaker's Peel Group, said its net asset value fell 3% in the third quarter.

    It "reflects current negative investor sentiment towards UK retail property", the company said.

    It comes on top of a 5.6% fall in its property values in the first half of the year.

    A neighbour living on a Leicester street where a man was shot in the leg at a house has said it has been "pretty scary".

    The man, who is in hospital, was hurt as police arrived at the address on Equity Road at about 22:40 last night.

    A 21-year-old woman has been found guilty of manslaughter after she stabbed her boyfriend during a party at their Hucknall home.

    Christopher Pearson, 39, died in hospital after he was stabbed several times in the abdomen on 18 February.

    After a 16-day trial at Nottingham Crown Court, Demi Harris was cleared of his murder but convicted of manslaughter.

    Mr Pearson had been drinking with friends and was naked in a hot tub with two men and two women.

    Harris had gone to bed at their house on Strathmore Close, but woke hours later to see them.

    The jury was told the couple argued outside and their fight continued upstairs into the bedroom where Mr Pearson kept a machete and knife "for protection".

    Harris told the jury she grabbed a knife from the bedside table because she was "scared" when he threatened to "beat her black and blue".

    She has been bailed and is due to appear at the same court for sentencing in December.

    Two teenagers have been treated for stab wounds after a fight broke out in a Leicester street.

    Police were called on Friday afternoon to a report of six young men fighting on Hillsborough Road in Eyres Monsell.

    When they arrived there were two teenagers being treated by paramedics for stab wounds.

    Both were taken to hospital - police have said one has since been discharged and the other remains in hospital in a stable condition.

    Two boys, aged 14 and 17, have been arrested on suspicion of affray and have been released on bail.

    Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time or has dashcam footage of the fight.

    A piece of land in Leicester that had become a magnet for fly-tippers has been cleared.

    The city council said it had been working with land-owners since February to remove piles of discarded furniture, car parts and wood from the site, near a scrapyard in Barkby Road.

    CCTV has now been installed at the location to deter fly-tippers in the future.

    Three men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was fatally injured at Forest Park and Ride.

    The man was taken to hospital after he was hit by a car at 00:30, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

    Nottinghamshire Police said the men, aged 18, 23 and 25 are in custody.
