    A 25-year-old man has appeared at Nottingham Magistrates' Court following the death of a man at a park and ride in Nottingham.

    Marius Caraleanu, from the Radford area of the city, is charged with murder and failing to stop after a crash at Forest Park and Ride on Tuesday that resulted in the death of 48-year-old Omar Shafiq, pictured.

    Mr Caraleanu is now due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday.

    The QC representing child sex abuse victims who have given evidence at a national inquiry has been critical of Nottingham City Council’s approach to the investigation.

    Caoilfhionn Gallagher expressed concern about the quality of the authority's apologies in her closing statement at the Independent Inquiry Child Sexual Abuse's investigation, external into abuse in Nottingham.

    She added that the authority gave "non-answers" which were "evasive".

    The city council's chief executive Ian Curryer said he was "saddened and humbled" by the victim's testimony and said the authority had accept "we should have done more to protect them from harm".

    Nottinghamshire County Council also paid tribute to the courage of the victims and survivors.

    It said: "Our director of children’s services has attended the Inquiry every day and listened carefully to all of the evidence provided so that the council can learn the lessons from the past."

    Thousands of pounds worth of computer equipment has been stolen from a sports academy run by the former Leicester City player Matt Piper.

    Football and Sports Diploma Academy, based in the Highfields area of Leicester, helps young people to achieve qualifications in sport.

    Mr Piper said some students they work with don't have any other qualifications and all their work at the academy so far was stored on the stolen tablets.

    He's posted CCTV footage of the theft on Twitter.
