    Brexit secretary, Stephen Barclay, has been visiting the Norton Motorcycles factory in Castle Donington.

    It comes ahead of a vote on Theresa May's Brexit withdrawal agreement.

    Mr Barclay claims businesses, including Norton Motorcycles, believe the prime minister's deal to be the "right deal".

    He said: "What businesses want is the certainty of a deal - the ability to plan."

    This isn't the view of the North West Leicestershire MP though.

    Andrew Bridgen doesn't believe Theresa May's deal gives Brexiteers what they voted for.

    He said: "I think it's a little bit sad to come out here trying to sell something, which the East Midlands are not going to buy.

    "We voted to leave the European Union and this isn't leaving."

    The Crown Prosecution Service has said the 13.5 year sentence given to Anthony Dealey shows the "appalling impact" of his crime.

    Rebecca Edwards from the CPS rape and serious sexual offences team said his actions had a "profound impact" on the victim and left the whole community in fear.

    She said: "He was convicted on compelling evidence that this was a premeditated attack and he intended to prevent the victim from identifying him.

    “Dealey’s imprisonment will reassure the community that a dangerous man is no longer among them. Above all though, I hope that knowing he is in jail will help the victim continue to recover from her ordeal."

    Police have said Anthony Dealey was caught after his DNA and a fingerprint were found on his victim and her belongings.

    As part of the investigation, officers conducted house to house visits in Ilkeston and asked a large number of men to voluntarily provided a DNA sample.

    The force has said this was a key part of the investigation.

    Det Supt Gareth Meadows from Derbyshire Police praised the bravery of the victim,

    “Although she had a terrible ordeal which no-one should ever have to experience, she remained strong," he said.

    She described her attacker so an artist impression could be drawn up and provided the information needed for a filmed re-construction, he added.

    A woman who lives in a flat above a Co-op said she was "awoken to an enormous sound" when an explosive was used to break open an ATM.

    Steph Oswald, who lives in Bingham's Market Place, wrote on social media she witnessed the robbery and called it "horrendous".

    Emily Anne Charlton Wood who lives on Nottingham Road said she heard "two bangs a few seconds apart" followed by "speeding cars".

    Nottinghamshire Police said an explosive device was used to gain access to the cash machine and five people wearing balaclavas and dark clothing were seen outside the shop before leaving with the cash.

    Anthony Dealey has been sentenced to life for raping and attempting to murder a woman after she got off a night bus in Ilkeston, Derbyshire.

    He was convicted in September over the attack on the woman leaving her for dead after repeatedly strangling her.

    Dealey, 43, of Erewash Square, Ilkeston, was told he must serve a minimum of 13.5 years.

    Fantasy miniatures maker Games Workshop expects a "healthy rise" in sales and profit for the second half of the year as it hailed the performance of key product, Warhammer.

    The Nottingham-based firm said trading has continued in line with expectations in the six months to 2 December, with sales set to come in 13% higher at £124m.

    The results were helped by the continued popularity of tabletop game Warhammer, which they said is in "great shape".

    "We have built on the progress we made last year and the results are considerable given the backdrop of major projects," the firm said.

    Shares in Games Workshop came under pressure in October when the company warned over uncertain trading.

    But in June, staff were handed a £5m bonus following a year of solid sales and profits.

    A rural road which has been "causing issues for years" is to be closed for 12 months to see if it relieves congestion in a Nottinghamshire village.

    Trent Lane, which runs from Gunthorpe Bridge to the centre of East Bridgford, is used by people to avoid traffic on the busy A6097.

    Yesterday Nottinghamshire County Council agreed to introduce a one-year traffic order to block the road to through-traffic.

    For the trial, a gate will be installed, and access will only be gained with a key.

    Councillor Francis Purdue-Horan, said: "At the moment the situation is intolerable...It gets completely chaotic at certain times of the day.

    "The advantage of doing it as an experimental order for a year is that we can see what pressure it puts on other areas, and whether we think the scheme works.

    Bombardier has paused production of the huge Crossrail rolling stock order following a nine month delay in the completion of the new London line.

    The massive construction project has also been hit by rising costs and the resignation of it's chairman.

    Trains are already operating in the east and west of the capital but the Elizabeth line, that was expected to open this month, now will not open until autumn next year.

    Bombardier, in Derby, has said it's not yet clear when work on the trains will start again.

    When you think about it, mincemeat is a pretty odd name for the fruity filling of a mince pie.

    And that's because originally they were in fact made from meat - often ground up boiled ox tongue.

    Historians at Loughborough University have found a 350-year-old recipe for the Christmas classic and for some reason decided to make their own, 17th Century style.

    According to Dr Sara Read the ancient version of the pudding doesn't actually taste that different and makes a "very interesting talking point" on the Christmas dinner table.
