    Police forces in the region have added their tributes to the Duke of Edinburgh after his death was announced shortly after 12:00.

    Derbyshire Police Chief Constable Rachel Swann said: "Together with each police force in England and Wales, Derbyshire Constabulary offer our condolences to the Royal Family and join the nation in mourning this sad news."

    Leicestershire's Chief Constable Simon Cole said: "We have had the privilege of supporting visits that he has made to the force area on a number of occasions.

    "The legacy for young people created by the Duke of Edinburgh's Award will live on in his memory."

    And Nottinghamshire Police said: "As a force we are deeply saddened by the death of His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh. Our thoughts are with Her Majesty the Queen and her family."

    Local MPs from across the political spectrum have been quick to pay tribute to Prince Philip.

    Alicia Kearns, Conservative MP for Rutland and Melton, said: "From a naval cadet at Dartmouth, to his retirement as a working member of the Royal family in 2017, he lived a life that defined the very concept of service.

    "From his years in the Royal Navy to the creation of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, he leaves a legacy that goes far beyond the steadfast companionship he provided to Her Majesty the Queen for over 60 years."
