The Matlock Bath Illuminations are set to return "on a limited basis" this year, Derbyshire Dales District Council has said.
First held back in 1897 to mark Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee, the event was cancelled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, having been called off in 2019 due to flooding.
The local authority said it hopes the event will be held in September and October this year, following a meeting with Matlock Bath Venetian Boat Builders' Association and Matlock Bath Parish Council.
If the event goes ahead there will be restrictions on the number of people allowed into Derwent Gardens, a spokesman said, with the council "looking closely at the capacity issue and other measures we need to put in place to make the event Covid secure".
Quote MessageIt's very likely the event will look and feel a lot different this year, but we are massively encouraged that the boat builders, whose amazing crafts are the centrepiece of every illuminations, have confirmed that they are in."

Complacent behaviour as coronavirus rules are eased could bring about a third wave, Derbyshire's director of public health has warned.
Dean Wallace urged people in the county to stay local, minimise journeys and stick to the guidance.
“With the new, more transmissible variant we know it doesn’t take much to start an outbreak, and with many parts of Europe experiencing another wave we really cannot be too careful," he said.
"As the vaccination programme hasn't started to reach the age groups that are most likely to spread the virus it is really important we remain vigilant.
"Otherwise, the risk of new variants increases which would put everyone’s hard work at risk.
“The other point to bear in mind is that we still haven’t seen the full impact of the schools returning on infection rates so we need to stay cautious."
