  20. Councillors express concern at budget meetingpublished at 15:26 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2019

    Chris Doidge
    BBC Radio Derby, political reporter

Money is the topic of conversation among Derbyshire councillors this afternoon as the county council sets its budget.

Finance chief Peter Handford has pointed out 2019/20 is the last year the council will receive revenue support grant from the government. It was worth £200m a year before austerity kicked in.

    Councillors at the meeting

The Conservative council leader Barry Lewis said "we can only go so far" unless there is extra funding from central government in future. He said his administration has been able to protect frontline services so far.

Labour leader Anne Western said her group has "major concerns" about this budget claiming there's been a "fundamental dereliction of duty" by central government towards councils.

She said Derbyshire is "on the road to Northamptonshire" in terms of budget difficulties.
