    Young people in one of the "worst places to live" in the country are split down the middle on what they think of their area, a local youth worker says.

    Radio One's Newsbeat's "know your place" calculator launched today, and put Melton Mowbray in the bottom five in the country in terms of places to live when you're aged between 16 and 25.

    Anthony Marvin, who works with eight to 18-year-olds, said the kids he speak to are split "50:50" on it.

    He said: "A good half feel there is a lot to offer, but some feel that they are stuck in a rut and want to get out. They feel if you are born in Melton and go to school in Melton you'll stay for the rest of your life.

    "It's a very close community and they feel that being there isn't going to allow them to achieve anything."

    He said the schools are very popular but admitted that besides his own groups there is not much for young people to do after school, adding "there's a cinema and that's about it".

    One of the two companies behind the Sinfin waste plant has said it's reached a deal to prevent its collapse.

    Interserve's rescue plan involves cutting debts from over £600m to £275m by issuing new shares.

    Chief executive Debbie White said it was "a significant step forward in our plans to strengthen the balance sheet".

    Interserve sells services, including probation, cleaning and healthcare, and is involved in construction projects.

    Police continue to appeal for witnesses after a man died when a van fell on him while he was working on it in Bulwell.

    It happened just before 14:30 on Abercarn Close yesterday.

    The police, a fire engine, three ambulances and an air ambulance were sent to the scene but the 65-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

    Patients at a secure mental health unit were being ignored when they asked to shower, eat or go to the toilet, resulting in at least one person soiling themselves, a report found.

    Care Quality Commission Inspectors at the 66-bed unit St Andrews Healthcare in Mansfield found it to be inadequate, external, particularly in its care of patients in seclusion.

    The centre, for men detained under the mental health act, has been placed in special measures and closed to new admissions.

    The men were also being left in seclusion longer than they should, partly because other patients could vote on whether someone stays in or not - a breach of the Mental Health Act Code of Practice. One man was left there for three days longer than they shoud, inspectors found.

    A spokesperson for the unit calls the findings "unacceptable", and says an urgent review is being carried out by new management.

    Four vehicles have crashed on the slip road on to the M1 northbound at J24 this morning.

    No lanes have been closed but the slip road is partially blocked.

    Would-be thieves tried to smash their way in to an industrial unit with a telehandler - but made off with nothing.

    They managed to damage the metal fence in their attempt but gave up and left empty handed, abandoning the JCB at the scene in Pinxton, Derbyshire.

    Officers from the road policing unit had to move it to clear the way. Forensics officers have now taken it away.

    Belper School and Sixth Form Centre will open at 11.15 today because of a water leak.

    They want pupils to go straight to their third period lesson when they come in and parents to keep an eye on their website, external for any updates.

    Pork pies and Stilton cheese just aren't enough to keep under 26-year-olds happy - or at least, that's what research by the BBC has found.

    It's based on things like sports facilities, mental health provision and places to go out - in all of which Melton scores a zero out of 10.

    The cities of Nottingham and Leicester on the other hand are amongst the top in the country and Derby is also ranked above average.
