    Derby County defender Richard Keogh has been called up to the provisional Republic of Ireland squad, external to face Gibraltar and Georgia in the 2020 UEFA Euro Qualifiers.

    The 32-year-old already has 21 international caps and made his 600th career appearance in English football In Tuesday's 2-1 win over Wigan Athletic.

    Two of the regions' Waitrose stores are shutting, putting 111 jobs at risk.

    The branch in Ashbourne, where the Shrovetide football game kicks off, will become a Poundstretcher.

    The Blaby branch will also close but the name of the new owner is not yet public. Three other branches across the country are also shutting.

    It comes after the John Lewis Partnership announced a 45% drop in annual profit for 2018.

    “The sale of our shops is never something we take lightly but we have accepted offers for them as it is sadly - despite the hard work of everyone involved - not commercially sustainable for us to continue trading from them in the long term."

    He added they would find places for workers at the store "wherever possible". Others will be made redundant.

    The fire service has shared photos of a nasty crash that happened in the Leicestershire village of Wistow this morning.

    Luckily no-one was seriously injured in the collision, which happened in Kibworth Road at about 09:00.

    Firefighters worked through the night at an industrial estate in Blaby after a fire started at a bed factory earlier in the day.

    Matthew Cane, from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, said officers will continue to work at the scene today.

    A Leicestershire council has issued its first "drone warning" after reports of one being flown over Peace Memorial Park in Wigston.

    Oadby and Wigston Borough Council recently adopted its drone policy following concerns that drones were being flown near to roads and properties causing distress to residents.

    The authority said the unnamed man was served with a Community Protection Warning that means he must stop flying the drone from any land owned by the council.

    The individual concerned had already been advised by Leicestershire Police to stop flying his drone in the area and he ignored that advice. If he ignores the community protection warning he could be prosecuted and fined up to £2,500."

    It's almost six months since Leicestershire County Council started patrolling the streets to spot illegal parking outside school gates.

    Half of the county's primary schools have now registered interest in the scheme, with 60 already subject to enforcement car patrols at the start and end of the school day.

    Parents at Ravenhurst Primary in Braunstone have said parking issues are regularly causing arguments between parents.

    They are happy to see the enforcement car but they don't think it's working.

    One said: "Even when they've been ticketed - they're not bothered. Once the police are out the way they do it again the next day. It doesn't seem to be improving at all."

    She also claimed the enforcement car patrol was "too early" to catch most drivers breaking the rules.

    Ann Carruthers from the county council admitted it was difficult to get the balance between school and resident parking but she's encouraging more schools to sign up to the scheme.

    Olympic champion Adam Peaty will lead the London-based franchise in the new International Swimming League when the series launches in October.

    The 24-year-old, who swam for City of Derby Swimming Club before switching to Loughborough, will be joined by British team-mate James Guy as well as Australian world champions Kyle Chalmers, Emma McKeon Cate and Bronte Campbell.

    London Team, which will be renamed later this year, is one of eight European and US franchises.

    Peaty said: "Twenty years ago swimmers wanted this kind of thing to happen and finally now it is happening."

    A diversion is in place near the A50 in Sudbury following a crash.

    The fire service has said it is working to release a casualty from one of the two vehicles involved.

    Nottingham City Council has said it's struggling to keep pace with demand for student accommodation.

    The authority said it wanted more purpose-built flats in order to free up other homes for families but claims the student population is growing too quickly and the amount of students living in older homes is on the rise again.

    Councillor Linda Woodings said the two universities were "so popular" and were both oversubscribed last year. This resulted in some first-year students having to live in emergency accommodation.

    Ms Woodings said there were developers keen to build more student accommodation in Nottingham.

    Derbyshire Police has been told the way it records crimes is "exceptionally poor".

    A third of crimes that occur in the county, that's more than 30,000 crimes a year, are not recorded by the force. The figures are even worse for violent crimes, where almost half of crimes don't get recorded.

    Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary said "immediate improvements" were needed.

    Chief Constable Peter Goodman has said the issues are being addressed by a senior officer. He was also critical of the report claiming "adhering to counting rules does not protect the public".

    A road on an industrial estate in Blaby has reopened after a large fire yesterday.

    Winchester Avenue was closed at about 13:30 when a blaze broke out at bed factory.

    The majority of the fire was out within three hours but firefighters continued to work through the evening.

    At the height of the blaze, witnesses described hearing loud bangs "like shot guns" coming from the warehouse.

    Black smoke could be seen from about six miles away.
