    A 19-year-old man who was stabbed in Leicester city centre is now out of hospital, police have said.

    The teenager was rushed to Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre after being attacked at the junction between Charles Street and Humberstone Gate at about 17:50 yesterday.

    Police have appealed for information on the assault, which they believe is linked to fighting in the area a short time before.

    The Queen flew in by helicopter for a private viewing of a new exhibition about dogs at Chatsworth House in the Peak District.

    A spokesman for Chatsworth said: "The Queen viewed the exhibition, The Dog: A Celebration at Chatsworth, to which she has generously lent a number of significant works of art from the royal collection."

    The exhibition officially opens to the public on Saturday.

    A man said he's been left heartbroken after 45 rescued pigeons were stolen from a loft earlier this week.

    The exhibition fantails, were taken between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning from Sinfin Lane in Barrow upon Trent, Derbyshire.

    The birds' owner Marcus Conner, who rescues birds, said he had taken in the pigeons from a man who couldn't look after them anymore.

    "It's not only broke my heart but also their previous owner’s whole family," he said.

    "I'm now paranoid this is going to happen again to the extent I’ve decided I won’t go to sleep tonight as I'm scared the rest will be taken.

    "I feel an absolute wreck my birds and rescue are my life, it feels like a big chunk of me has gone."

    Nottingham Forest director John Metgod has announced he's leaving the club, external to become assistant manager of the UAE national team.

    The former Reds midfielder was appointed to the board of directors at the City Ground in summer 2017 but will now depart by mutual consent.

    Metgod said: "I have very much enjoyed my time at the club and I would like to wish Martin and the team the best of luck for the remainder of the season.

    "Everyone knows about my love for the people at the club and in the city so this was a very difficult decision for me."

    A 41-year-old man from Nottingham has been jailed, external for sexually abusing a child over a two-year period.

    Leon Hunt, of Sandringham Road, Nottingham, had denied all charges at Nottingham Crown Court but a jury found him guilty of four counts of rape and two counts of assault by penetration.

    He was jailed for 14 years and placed on the sex offenders' register for life.

    Investigating officer Det Con Helen Sanders said: "He abused a child for a prolonged period of time and it is only right that he spends a considerable number of years behind bars.

    "Even up to the jury delivering their verdict, he refused to take responsibility for what he had done."

    Chesterfield Football Club will be holding a minute's applause for the club's former chairman Mike Watterson.

    Mr Watterson, who was chairman of his hometown Spireites and Derby County in the 1980s, was also a sports promoter and snooker player.

    He provided £91,000 to Chesterfield to prevent the club from being wound-up in the High Court in 1983.

    Mr Watterson died on Friday 8 March at Chesterfield Royal Hospital after suffering with a lung infection.

    A 14th century French gold coin found in a furniture drawer has sold for £850 at auction.

    Amy Clapp, who lives near Swadlincote, was left the antique bureau by a long-lost distant cousin. The coin was found by a furniture valuer when she took the bureau to Hansons Auctioneers to sell.

    The coin - a Raymond IV Prince of Orange, 22ct gold Franc A Pied from 1365 - was hidden in a "secret drawer".

    Valuer Edward Rycroft said: " I knew straight away it was special and worth far more than the bureau." The piece of furniture sold for £260.

    Mrs Clapp bought Mr Rycroft a box of chocolates to say thank you for the discovery.

    She said: "As a family, we’ve had some bad luck in the last two years so for something like this to happen to us is amazing.

    Police are currently searching the area where there were reports of trespassers on a train line.

    British Transport Police were called at 12:45 today to the line near Langley Mill station.

    National Rail is reporting delays of 10-20 minutes on trains leaving Nottingham towards Sheffield.

    Two brothers have been jailed, external after breaking a man's jaw during a robbery in Loughborough.

    Paul and Jonathan Widdowson's 59-year-old victim needed surgery after being attacked while having his phone, keys and bank card stolen in Sparrow Hill on 6 February.

    Paul Widdowson, 28, of Pinfold Gate, Loughborough, was jailed for six years after admitting robbery and GBH at Leicester Crown Court.

    Jonathan Widdowson, 24, of Waterside Close, Loughborough, received a four-and-a-half year sentence after pleading guilty to the same offences.

    No trains are able to depart Nottingham heading towards Sheffield due to trespassers on the line.

    People are currently on the line near Langley Mill, which has caused it to close.

    No train can leave Nottingham until it is reopened.

    East Midlands Trains tweeted: "Emergency services are on their way to site to remove them. They are expected in the next 10 minutes."

    A dozen new homes aimed at young people are to be built next to a historic Ilkeston mill.

    The plans complete the project pitched by developer 8B UK Limited to reclaim the Rutland Mill site, off Market Street, for residential use.

    Built in the late 19th Century, Rutland Mill was previously a glove and hosiery factory.

    The main complex has now been reopened after a multimillion-pound investment to turn it into 37 apartments aimed at young professional couples and families.

    Now 12 houses - most of which would contain three-bedrooms - are to be built in the "redundant" car park of the mill, and on the site of a now demolished former mill building.

    The phase two plans were approved by Erewash Borough Council last night.

    Police investigating the death of Arthur Gumbley have said DNA from Jason Wilsher was found on a cupboard drawer at the pensioner’s bungalow.

    The 20-year-old from Bagworth has been found guilty of his murder and conspiracy to commit robbery after he broke into Mr Gumbley's home in Sutton Coldfield in November 2017.

    Mr Gumbley, 87, died in hospital three weeks later.

    He had been punched in the face, then kicked when he fell to the floor. It's believed he was dragged across the carpet as he had burns to his back.

    His watch had been pulled off his wrist, tearing his skin. Gold and silver jewellery was also taken.

    The police were alerted after Mr Gumbley managed to call his daughter.

    Police managed to catch Wilsher after linking it to a second offence near Mansfield in November 2017, in which the owner of a farmhouse was hit with a baseball bat and had a knife pushed through his lip by three masked men who robbed his home.

    In both attacks, a blue Mazda RX8 was used.

    The car was found burnt out but it had been sold privately and police found telephone numbers involved in the sale led to Wilsher’s family.

    His address on Barlestone Road was also written on the V62 document. This, along with the DNA found at Mr Gumbley's home led to his conviction.

    Next's annual sales and profits at its High Street stores have continued their fall of recent years, but its online business continues to grow.

    Sales in the Enderby-based retailer's stores fell nearly 8% last year to £1.95bn, while online sales rose by 14.7% to £1.92bn.

    Next said online was a "long-term threat" to its High Street business, but a "larger opportunity" for the group.

    The retailer also said it could see "no evidence" that Brexit uncertainty was affecting consumer behaviour.
