    Police believe a Derbyshire teenager who's gone missing may have gone to Blackpool.

    Corben Tennant disappeared from his home in Glebe Avenue, Pinxton, at about 13:00 yesterday. He also has links to Chesterfield.

  3. 'Black and Asian households at greater risk of fire'published at 10:46 British Summer Time 8 April 2019

    Worrying figures from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service have highlighted that the homes of people from Black and Asian communities are far more likely to be affected by fire.

    The fire service teamed up with the University of Leicester to gather the data that is now being analysed.

    Hiren Patel is from the fire service and said there does seem to be less awareness of a "bedtime routine" within these communities - where doors are closed and an escape route is clear.

    The fire service plans to use the results to better develop their safety messages to different communities.

    The body of a 34-year-old man has been discovered at the scene of a flat fire in Hadfield.

    Firefighters were sent to Green Lane yesterday morning following an emergency call reporting a sounding smoke alarm and smoke coming from a building.

    Two fire crews went to the flat and found the man's body. Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service have said his family have been made aware, but formal identification has not yet taken place.

    A joint police and fire investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

    Nottingham band Sleaford Mods have spoken out after a female fan said she was groped during their gig in Bristol on Saturday night.

    The duo said in a tweet, external: "Touching anyone without their consent is not acceptable no matter how you dress it up.

    "If you think groping women is acceptable don’t bother buying a ticket, we don’t want your money and you’re not welcome."

  9. Councils 'may pull plug' on Sinfin waste plant dealpublished at 09:37 British Summer Time 8 April 2019

    A decision could be made this week about whether Derby and Derbyshire's councils will pull out of a near-billion pound waste contract.

    The company RRS was supposed to have completed work on the waste treatment site at Sinfin by September but hasn't been able to get it fully operational.

    Derby City Council and Derbyshire County Council, who are jointly involved in the deal, are expected to make a decision on its future later this week.

    RRS said discussions had been ongoing for several months about how best to commission the site.

    Leicestershire all-rounder Colin Ackermann has said hours of bowling practice is making a real difference in the County Championship this season.

    Ackermann took five wickets for just 69 runs on day three of their division two game away at Sussex.

    The foxes ended their day back at the crease with a score of 99 for one, chasing 131 to win.

    Ackermann said his side will need to "remain calm" today as "things can change quickly".

    Police say they want to speak to this person after cash was stolen from an elderly woman in Nottingham last week.

    The woman was targeted in Albert Road, West Bridgford at about 11:30 on Wednesday.

    Retail tycoon Mike Ashley, who has tabled a rescue bid for store chain Debenhams, has accused its executives of "a sustained programme of falsehoods and denials".

    Mr Ashley, chairman of Shirebrook-based Sports Direct, urged them to take a lie detector test and called for an investigation and the firm's shares to be suspended.

    He has offered to inject £150m into the beleaguered department store as long as he is appointed chief executive and accused board members of misrepresenting what had happened in a meeting between the two firms.

    Debenhams did not respond to the claims.

    Almost 3,000 women took part in a charity walk in Leicester on Saturday evening to raise money for the Loros hospice.

    There were jellyfish, mermaids and lobsters pounding the streets to raise money for the charity which provides end of life care across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

    Organisers say it was their biggest Twilight walk to date. The 10km event started at the King Power stadium and saw many walking in support and in memory of those the hospice has helped.

    A man who made international headlines in 2015 when he raffled off his honeymoon after being jilted by his fiancee is now back together with her - and they're getting married.

    John Whitbread, from Donisthorpe, ended up going to the Dominican Republic with stranger Kelly Wood after she was named the winner in his Jilted John charity raffle.

    The platonic pair said they had a "brilliant time" on the honeymoon and remained friends afterwards.

    It's now emerged he later reconciled with Amy Jackson and last week he popped the question to her live on ITV's Good Morning Britain - and she said yes.

    Explaining her original decision to call off the engagement, Miss Jackson said: "I didn't really know who I was at that time. I just knew it wasn't right - but I always loved John. It was just a case of bad timing.

    "A lot of people have said 'are you definitely going to get married this time?' and absolutely. Even though it's been in the media, this isn't a jokey proposal or a stunt. We're real people."

    Mr Whitbread said he understood there might be scepticism about the latest twist but told BBC Radio Derby: "People can say what they like but we're really happy."

    A £300,000 project to replace an aging 1960s gas main in the Basford area of Nottingham is due to get under way today.

    The work, near the cemetery in Nottingham Road, will take an an estimated eight weeks and will affect access from Perry Road.

    Gas company Cadent will be replacing the current cast iron mains - the size of a tractor tyre - with modern plastic pipes it says will last until the turn of the century.

  16. Prison sets up bedtime story sessionspublished at 08:03 British Summer Time 8 April 2019

    A prison in Nottinghamshire has started inviting prisoners' children in to film bedtime stories with their fathers.

    The scheme is aimed at reducing reoffending rates by keeping families closer together.

    The children receive a DVD where the storybook is animated behind them. The prison is also setting up a website where they can request stories and watch the videos online.
