Ahead of his death he set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for his wife Carrie after his death. He wrote: "If this has been uploaded then it means that I have died after my battle with cancer."

His aim was to raise £5,000 for his wife - so far he's nearly half way to that target.

Carrie Short, from Narborough said: "I'd spent the month that he was sick making sure that he'd bought presents for the boys, cards, presents for his family and I didn't really expect anything.

"He was just always really concerned about getting us things and he would always go without to make sure that we had what we need."

  3. Migrant with terminal cancer 'denied treatment'published at 08:52 British Summer Time 30 April 2019

    BBC Radio Derby

There are claims a migrant with terminal cancer who died on Sunday was wrongly denied free medical treatment in Derby.

The humanitarian group Doctors of the World has said the Royal Derby Hospital didn't follow NHS guidelines and discharged the man without any pain relief because he didn't have leave to remain in the UK.

    Royal Derby Hospital

Phil Murwell from the group told the BBC: "This man was given the most awful news one can get... instead of being treated by the hospital he was discharged and abandoned from their care."

The Royal Derby Hospital has said it is unable to comment on the care of individual patients but said it does provide care to overseas patients in line with national guidance.

It said: "Treatment in NHS emergency departments is free for patients that are not ordinarily resident, although any subsequent treatment as a result of admission to hospital is chargeable."
