    Amy Woodfield
    BBC News

A woman from Stanton-by-Bridge claims a mistake by Severn Trent Water has put her at risk of contracting a disease.

As part of work to connect a supply to a neighbour the company left 50 ft of pipe under Suzanne Penn's home, which isn't connected to fresh water.

Those pipes, known as "dead legs" can contain stagnant water - which Ms Penn believes could be a breeding ground for Legionella bacteria.

    Tap with water coming out

Ms Penn said: "I think Severn Trent should be ashamed of themselves. I have been on the phone to them numerous times in tears.

"It is keeping me awake at night. It's not a nice position for my family to be in at all."

Severn Trent accepts a section of pipe was capped incorrectly and said it is an "absolute priority" to fix the problem.

    Quote Message

We're really sorry for any concerns following the work, and completely understand Ms Penn's frustrations. It will be our absolute priority for our teams to go back out as soon as possible. We'll also continue to take samples of the water following concerns over the water quality."

The water regulator Ofwat has confirmed it is looking at the case.

It said: "We would hope and expect that her water company will do what they can to help Ms Penn and resolve the matter."
