    A lorry and two cars are involved in the accident on the M1 northbound, police have confirmed.

    It happened at about 12:00 and injuries are "believed to be serious", according to Nottinghamshire Police.

    Highways England said there are still around 75 minutes of delays in the area.

    Police have advised motorists to find alternative routes.

  3. Airport reduces time allowed at passenger drop-offpublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 24 May 2019

    Safety and congestion problems have led to East Midlands Airport steeply increasing the charge for dropping off passengers.

    Previously, drivers were given 10 minutes to drop off at a price of £2. That time has now been halved to five minutes and there are penalty charges of £1 a minute if people don't get out in time.

    Andy Tyler from the airport told the BBC: "It is long enough for the majority of our customers.

    "We do have the blue badges areas for our disabled passengers and we have one-hour free parking for those who want to spend a bit longer saying goodbye."

    Passengers don't seem impressed though. One person said: "I'm not happy about it at all actually."

    Another said: "It's absolutely ridiculous people are human beings - there's old, there's young. It's going to take them time."

    A dog helped rescue a 22-year-old man who was being attacked on a footpath in Langley Mill.

    Police have said the man was knocked to the floor and assaulted near Bailey Brook Drive, behind Langley Mill Academy on Monday evening.

    The victim's dog was able to force the attacker off leaving him with only minor injuries.

    Police are appealing for anyone with information about the attacker to come forward.

    They believe he's likely to have "stood out" as the weather was warm and he was wearing a grey puffer jacket with the hood pulled up and black woollen gloves.

    The clean up of illegally dumped asbestos in Nottinghamshire cost about £10,000.

    Contractors for Bassetlaw District Council finished clearing the toxic waste from the B6034 Ollerton Road yesterday.

    The four-mile stretch of road, between Worksop and Budby, reopened after being closed for almost a week.

    David Armiger from the council told the BBC he's worried whoever left the asbestos on the road could have been exposed to it.

    He said: "They've clearly handled it. It has been broken up in the process of them moving it and there's quite a significant possibility that they've inhaled some of the asbestos."

    The world's largest concert promoter has said it will eliminate single-use plastics at its venues and festivals by 2021.

    That means events like Download at Donington Park, Leicestershire will go plastic free.

    It's part of a push from Live Nation to achieve zero waste at its clubs, concert halls and venues by 2030.

    The pledge comes after independent British festivals like Glastonbury and Bestival vowed to cut plastic waste.

    Five women are among a group of 12 newly qualified firefighters at a passing out ceremony today in Ripley.

    They've all completed a 16 week course to join Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service.

    This is the biggest group of female firefighters, and the largest proportion of female to males, all from one course, to pass out of training at the same time, the service said.

    Suzie Bennison is one of the graduates - she said they have all been treated the same regardless to their gender.

    Julia Smith, a training instructor, said: "I do think it has made a really big difference having more females this time.

    "We've got five good role models here - hopefully other people can see that and see they can do it too."

    A school in Derby has received its eighth critical Ofsted report, external in a row.

    Moorhead Primary School in Alvaston became an academy in 2012 after being taken over by the Landau Forte charitable trust.

    The latest report labels the school as inadequate. It claims pupils are not given the opportunity to learn a wide range of subjects and that pupils are not well prepared for life in modern Britain.

    The trust said it accepts that the academy isn't improving quickly enough.

    It said: "Transforming a school for the long-term takes time and commitment from everyone involved, but we are confident that the work of the new leadership team is already beginning to bear fruits.

    "Since Ofsted visited us in March, more has been put in place to strengthen provision and provide a secure basis for the school to move forward from."

    Two men were taken to hospital, where they're being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

    One man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm. Three others were arrested on suspicion of affray at an address nearby.

    The academics behind the project have said they'll begin recruiting suitable patients for the study next year.

    Derbyshire Police are investigating 11 possible offences in relation to the local elections that took place earlier this month.

    There were 14 allegations made around the local elections on 2 May but it was decided that no offence was committed in three of those cases.

    The other 11 are still being looked into - among them is an allegation of possible postal vote fraud in the Abbey ward of Derby.

    Police have said the other reports are from across the county, and they're deciding whether a formal criminal investigation is required.
