    Amy Orton
    Local Democracy Reporter

Dog owners not clearing up after their pets in one area of Leicestershire could have been getting away with it for months - after it was found a council's policy had lapsed.

According to a report that went before Harborough District Council’s cabinet last night, a public space protection order (PSPO) expired on May 31.

The report states "dog fouling is a high priority". However, when asked by the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the council said no fines were handed out in 2018/19.

In the same time period, 79 complaints were made to the authority about dog fouling.

A spokesman for the council said dog walkers had still been "challenged" between 31 May and now.

He said: "During this period our environmental crime team continued to challenge dog walkers out and about across the district to ensure they are carrying means to pick up after their pets and all have had the required bags."

The order will now be reactivated after yesterday's meeting.
