Just over 12,000 people were caught speeding in Derbyshire in 2018/19 - the third lowest in England and Wales.

In Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire, the figures were 41,909 and 24,566 respectively.

The RAC Foundation said variations across forces were partly due to geographical area, road type, traffic volume and local policing priorities.

Across England and Wales, there was a 4% increase in the number of speeders caught by police.

Wiltshire Police caught fewer than 1,000 speeders, because all speed cameras were turned off in the county in 2010.
