    Today we have seen a few schools in the region because of the coronavirus outbreak.

    Here's a round up of the ones we know so far:

    • Dronfield Henry Fanshawe School in Derbyshire fully closed today “until further notice”.
    • John Port Spence Academy in Etwall, Derbyshire is to close to Years 8, 9, 10 and 12 tomorrow. Pupils in Years 7, 11 or 13 can attend as normal.
    • Glebelands Primary School in Leicester is partly shut today and tomorrow because teachers are absent.
    • Holgate Academy in Hucknall is fully closed until after the Easter break (20 April) after a parent of a student confirmed they have coronavirus.
    • Bluecoat Beechdale Academy in Bilborough, Nottingham, has been closed to Year 9 students only.
    • Selston High School in Nottingham has asked Year 9 and 10 pupils not to attend today or tomorrow.
    • Nottingham Academy's Wells Academy Campus is closed to Years 8, 9 and 10 with students due to return after the Easter holidays on 20 April.
    • Cantrell Primary School in Bulwell is is closing its Rising Stars day care for two-year-olds.
    • Carrington Primary School's nursery is shutting from Thursday.
    • NUAST (Nottingham University Academy of Science and Technology) in Dunkirk will be closed to Years 7, 8 and 10 from tomorrow.
  2. Council boss withdraws resignation to help with coronaviruspublished at 14:06 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2020

    The chief executive of Rutland County Council is postponing her retirement to support the county through the coronavirus pandemic.

    Helen Briggs was due to retire from the authority later this year but has withdrawn her resignation.

    She said: “These are unique and exceptional times and it is important that there is consistency of leadership during this period, which is why I have made this decision.”

    The leader of Rutland County Council, Oliver Hemsley, said he was "grateful" Ms Briggs was remaining in her post adding it will ensure stability and support during "unprecedented times.”

  3. Five arrested after boy 'assaulted by group' in Basfordpublished at 13:44 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2020

    Five people have been arrested after a boy was assaulted by a group of people in Basford, police said.

    Nottinghamshire Police said, external they were called to a report of the boy being assaulted in Nuthall Road near Christ Church at about 19:00 on Monday.

    Four boys, aged 13 to 14, and an 18-year-old man were later detained on suspicion of robbery.

    The force has appealed for witnesses.

  4. Coronavirus: Islamic evening school classes to shutpublished at 13:40 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2020

    Islamic evening school classes in Leicester and Leicestershire are to close over concerns about coronavirus.

    Suleman Nagdi, of the Federation of Muslim Organisations, said about 25,000 children who attend the classes called Madrasas, will be given alternative study plans.

    He said: "The dangers we face with young children is that if they pick up a virus, they go home and their parents and grandparents become vulnerable to it."

  5. Chatsworth Flower Show joins list of cancelled eventspublished at 13:36 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2020

    The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has cancelled the Chatsworth Flower Show following the latest government advice on coronavirus.

    The event was due to take place in Derbyshire between 11 and 14 June.

    It's among seven events to be cancelled by the RHS, including Chelsea Flower Show - cancelled for the first time since World War Two.

    Sue Biggs, RHS Director General, said: "Our RHS shows are vitally important platforms for the horticultural industry, and we are especially aware of the impact of cancelling these events on everyone involved.

    "We will be doing all we can to help growers and nurseries to sell the plants they will have grown for the cancelled shows."

  6. Buxton Opera House announces temporary closurepublished at 13:34 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2020

    Buxton Opera House has confirmed it's temporarily closing with immediate effect following government advice over the coronavirus outbreak.

    The cinema and the Pavilion Arts Centre will also be shut from today, and tickets for all events up to the end of April will automatically be refunded.

  7. Police warn of coronavirus scampublished at 13:30 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2020

    Police are warning of a scam relating to the recent coronavirus outbreak.

    It involves people going up to houses and claiming they can carry out a test for coronavirus on the doorstep.

    Leicestershire Police tweeted, external: "Those claiming they can carry out tests on your doorstep are lying. Do not let them into your house and don't pay them."

    The force said it isn't aware of any cases in the county but say "it is happening elsewhere".

    BBC Radio Derby reporter Jonathan Baker is currently self-isolating after showing symptoms of coronavirus, external.

    He had been skiing in Andorra and returned last Sunday.

    He has been staying at home until he recovers and has spoken of his experience.

    Derbyshire's largest school will be closed to most pupils from tomorrow because staff are having to self-isolate.

    John Port Spencer Academy in Etwall said: "Following the new government guidance on self isolation on Monday, 16 March, we have a significant number of staff who will be absent from work for the next 14 days.

    "Regrettably this leaves us in a position where we are unable to operate as normal for all year groups and keep the students and staff safe."

    Pupils in Years 8, 9, 10 and 12 will not be able to attend classes from Wednesday but children in Years 7, 11 or 13 can go to school as normal.

  10. Coronavirus: East Midlands Airport owner writes to PMpublished at 12:21 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2020

    The owners of East Midlands Airport have written to the Prime Minister asking for emergency financial support in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.

    The Manchester Airports Group is asking for more flexibility over protocol for border staff and Air Passenger Duty to be deferred or suspended.

    Its chief executive said on Monday it will consult with workers and unions over new measures to reduce costs.

    The letter has also been signed by bosses at Gatwick and Heathrow.

    The Airport Operators Association has asked for emergency financing, a suspension of taxes on airports, financial support so that airport staff can remain employed throughout the crisis, and relief on policing costs.

    Leicester's Curve theatre has closed for the rest of this week following the government’s latest advice about the spread of coronavirus.

    All performances of The Phantom of the Opera and What’s in a Name? have been cancelled.

    Customers have been told they will receive a refund for cancelled performances.

    Curve said: "We are extremely sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. We take the health and well-being of our customers, visitors, employees and artists extremely seriously and will continue to take guidance from Public Health England, the government and UK Theatre."

  12. Coronavirus: 'Staff absence' forces partial school closurepublished at 11:27 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2020

    Hundreds of children in Nottingham will not be going to school for more than a month because of "significant levels of staff absence" caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

    Nottingham Academy has had to partly close for students in Year 8, 9 and 10 on the Wells Academy campus.

    Students will not return to the school until after the Easter holidays on Monday, 20 April.

    The absences are related to people self-isolating because of coronavirus following the change in advice from the government. There are no confirmed cases of the virus amongst staff or pupils, the academy said.

    Principal Marcus Shepherd said: "Whilst the government has not announced the widespread closure of schools, unfortunately the cumulative impact of the current measures has lead to significant levels of staff absence".

    Students in Year 7 and 11 are being told to continue attending school as normal.

    Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham has shut its doors in response to the coronavirus outbreak.

    The venue will be closed for four weeks and ticketholders will be contacted for refunds.

    Managers said they would be "working on other ways of sharing art and ideas via our digital platforms".

  14. Coronavirus: Building society to trial early openingspublished at 09:24 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2020

    East Midlands branches of Nationwide will be among more than 100 trialling new branch opening times during the coronavirus outbreak.

    The UK's biggest building society said it's bringing in the new times to help the elderly and vulnerable manage their money, with the selected branches opening from 08.00 instead of the usual 09:00 from 18 March.

    The branches in Derby, Leicester and Nottingham are all part of the scheme.

    If the trial is seen as an effective way of providing support to people aged 70 and above and those with underlying health conditions, it could be extended to the rest of its 650 branches.

    A school in Derbyshire has been forced to close due to the number of staff in self-isolation.

    Dronfield Henry Fanshawe School, a secondary school in the town of Dronfield, closed on Tuesday after a "significant number" of staff could not go into work.

    A statement from the school said: "We have analysed the staffing and concluded that there is a significant number of staff who will not be able to come to school.

    "This means that it will not be possible to function safely and securely as a school, nor provide the appropriate provision that is required."

    A former guest and a member of staff at Center Parcs in Nottinghamshire have tested positive for coronavirus.

    The holiday company has confirmed both have now left the Sherwood Forest village and are in isolation.

    Center Parcs said the site is still open to guests but terms and conditions around rescheduling breaks have been relaxed for those with concerns.

    It said: "We have been doing, and continue to do, everything we can to protect our guests and staff, including a rigorous cleaning regime and closely monitoring and following government guidelines."

  20. University moves teaching online over coronavirus concernspublished at 17:57 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2020

    Students at De Montfort University in Leicester have been told classroom teaching will move online, external due to concerns about coronavirus.

    It said all face-to-face lectures, seminars and tutorials will be suspended from Wednesday and will begin online on Monday.

    Professor Andy Collop, interim vice-chancellor at the university, said while the campus will remain open there will be "no more classroom-based teaching or lecturing until further notice".
