    Court buildings in Derby, Chesterfield and Mansfield are among 16 sites being reopened for face-to-face hearings this week, external.

    Derby Crown Court, Chesterfield Magistrates' Court and Mansfield Magistrates' Court were closed along with more than 100 others nationwide as a precaution due to coronavirus.

    HM Courts and Tribunals Service said the reopening sites had been assessed as suitable to hold socially-distanced hearings and would "strictly follow public health guidance to ensure the protection and safety of all court users".

    Lord Chief Justice Lord Burnett, the most senior judge in England and Wales, said the move is "a very welcome step towards reopening all our court buildings".

    Derby's bus station has reopened today, just over two months after it was shut to passengers to keep staff safe from coronavirus.

    It will work as a pick-up only system, with services coming into the city dropping passengers at on-street bus stops.

    A one-way pedestrian system will be in place, with passengers entering from the Morledge and leaving through the doors near the River Gardens.

    Staff will be on the concourse to deal with queries from the public, but the toilets, shop and information office will be closed.

  3. Bishop kneels outside cathedral 'to highlight injustice'published at 10:02 British Summer Time 8 June 2020

    The Bishop of Leicester has knelt outside Leicester Cathedral "to highlight injustice in our own society".

    Rt Revd Martyn Snow held the position for eight minutes and 46 seconds, the amount of time George Floyd was alleged to be on the ground under the control of police in Minneapolis in the US.

    Mr Floyd was pronounced dead a short time later. Four police officers have since been charged over the death.

    Bishop Snow said the "personal and individual act" took place as he could not take part in mass action due to coronavirus lockdown guidelines.

    He added: "Structural and systemic racial prejudice exists across societies and institutions we must act to change that, as well as addressing our own unconscious biases that lead us to discriminate against others."

    Bishop Snow was joined by several socially-distanced colleagues.

    A 29-year-old woman has been arrested after a number of allegations of fraud.

    Police said over recent days, the force had received a number of reports of fraud in relation to a charity raffle.

    The woman, from Sawley, remains in custody as inquiries continue into the alleged offences.

    Police have not released more details but have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

    A man has been charged with assaulting two police officers in Nottingham.

    Nottinghamshire Police said the officers were hurt while making an arrest in Beardsley Gardens, The Meadows, on Sunday in connection with an assault.

    One officer suffered a cut to his forehead when struck with a handcuff, while another was hit on the head, the force added.

    The 35-year-old suspect has been charged with two offences of assault by beating of a police officer, assault by beating, criminal damage and possession of cannabis and will appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court later.

    Five people have been arrested after a "large disturbance" in Sandiacre on Saturday evening.

    Derbyshire Police said they were called to Norbury Way at about 18:30 and arrested five individuals on suspicion of public order offences.

    A 50-year-old man, a 25-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man, from Ilkeston, were arrested at the scene.

    The force added a 22-year-old man, of no fixed abode, and a woman, 32, from Sandiacre, were also detained.

    Police have appealed for witnesses.
