    A safety warning has been issued after eight railway fog signals were stolen from the Midland Railway in Butterley.

    Derbyshire Police said they were taken with tools and a fire extinguisher at some point between 16:00 on Thursday and 08:30 on Tuesday.

    The force said the small explosive devices, which are used to alert train drivers to a hazard further along the track, could cause serious injury if struck, walked on or put in a fire.

    A pedestrian has died after being hit by a car in Chesterfield yesterday afternoon.

    Derbyshire Police said a man, in his 30s, was struck by the car that did not stop on Malvern Road, Brockwell, at about 16:30.

    The man suffered serious injuries and died at the scene, the force added.

    Officers located the vehicle believed to have been involved and later arrested a woman on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

    A woman has been charged with assaulting two police officers who were allegedly attacked with garden shears.

    Nottinghamshire Police said the officers were attacked during a "safe and well check" at a house in Stanley Road, Forest Fields, on Sunday morning.

    People across the region have woken up to wintry scenes this morning after flurries of snow yesterday and ground frost this morning.

    A large blaze broke out at a beauty spot in Nottinghamshire after visitors lit a camp fire.

    It took crews about two hours to deal with the fire, which affected an area of more than 150 square metres at woods in Warsop Windmill on Monday morning.

    Discarded cans, food wrappers, a disposable barbecue and a makeshift camp were found at the scene.

    A car that may be linked to the fatal stabbing of a man in Derbyshire is being sought by detectives.

    Ricky Collins, 31, died in hospital after being found by police in Killamarsh at about 22:00 on 29 March.

    Officers said they want to trace a silver 09 plate Astra, seen on CCTV in the area of Westthorpe Road in the town around the time of the alleged assault on Mr Collins.

    The vehicle has links to addresses in South Yorkshire, Derbyshire Police added.

    A 24-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman, both from Sheffield, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are currently in police custody.

    Two men have been already been charged with assisting an offender.

    Mansfield has the fifth highest coronavirus rate in England, according to the latest figures.

    In the seven days to 2 April, the district recorded a rate of 99.7 per 100,000, compared with nearby Nottingham, which had 33.6.

    Mansfield was also the only area in the top 20 - led by Corby in Northamptonshire with a rate of 145.4 - which recorded a rise in cases.

    Leicester has the 15th highest rate, at 86.7, while South Derbyshire had the highest rate in its county, at 51.3.

    A man has been arrested after police used a silent 999 call system to track down a domestic abuse victim.

    Nottinghamshire Police said they were contacted by a woman on Sunday afternoon who said her friend was being threatened.

    The call was ended and attempts to speak to her again failed.

    But by using an emergency text system designed originally for deaf people, contact was restored and a location given.

    Officers were joined by colleagues from Derbyshire Police in visiting a house in Central Drive, Shirebrook.

    A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of threats to kill, harassment and breach of bail.

    Sgt James Flint said: "This was excellent work by the control room staff who were able to engage with the victim's friend and keep her talking to us to ensure we could track down the location.

    "The woman was able to whisper on the call at first, but then we were able to utilise tools to keep that conversation going in a safe manner."
