Police have issued a warning to motorists after a large number of cars parked up at East Midlands Parkway railway station on Sunday.

Nottinghamshire Police said they received a report of a large gathering, with "local intelligence" informing officers of a planned event for car enthusiasts over the weekend.

Officers disrupted vehicles meeting at Portland Retail Park in Mansfield, with other groups of drivers also meeting up in Bulwell, while the drivers attempting to meet up near the railway station caused "significant traffic disruption" on the A453 after travelling on the M1.

The groups dispersed at about 21:45 and no fines were issued.

A spokesman for the force said the drivers "are being watched and will be prosecuted if they drive dangerously or aggressively".

These meet-ups become a problem for us when people drive those vehicles in a way that puts other road users, and themselves, at risk of serious injury or death. We will be putting more officers and resources into dealing with such events in the coming weeks and months to target people who break the law."
