  1. Terry Oldham murder accused acquittedpublished at 12:29

    One of four people accused of murdering a vulnerable man in Cornwall has been acquitted.

    Richard Rosevear, 33, of Truro Road, St Austell, had been accused of killing 63-year-old Terry Oldham (pictured), whose body was found at his home in Camborne in April 2014 after being sexually assaulted.

    A judge told the jury at Truro Crown Court to find Mr Rosevear not guilty of murder due to "insufficient evidence". Three other people are still on trial for murder. They and Mr Rosevear also face a charge of allowing the death of a vulnerable adult, which they all deny. The case continues.

    I've been talking to one Cornwall Councillor who thinks the authority should ban the release of sky lanterns and helium balloons from its land.

    Experts at Cornwall Wildlife Trust, external say balloons lead to sea life fatalities, like this gannet found dead at Crooklets Beach at Bude.

    Athletes in Cornwall who use the Par running track say they're very concerned it could face closure.

    Leisure services in Cornwall are currently being put out to tender, but the track is one for four facilities that the council hopes will be taken over by community groups. 

    Phillipa Brett and Libby Taylor are both training for the GB skeleton team at Par running track - they say the facility is crucial.

    Plymouth Argyle let themselves down defensively in their 5-3 loss to Millwall in the Football League Trophy, according to manager Derek Adams.

    Lee Gregory scored a hat-trick for the Lions as Plymouth went out of a second cup competition in four days following their 2-0 FA Cup loss to Carlisle.

    "Defensively we've let ourselves down. We can't defend the way we defended for the five goals. The five goals given away, they were all preventable," Adams told BBC Radio Devon.

  8. Intensive farming 'raises risk of bovine TB in cattle'published at 11:17

    Intensive cattle farming practices have been linked to the spread of bovine tuberculosis (bTB), with larger high-yield herds more likely to be affected by outbreaks, researchers say.

    Scientists from the University of Exeter, external analysed data from 503 farms that had suffered outbreaks and 808 others that had not.

    In high-risk regions of the UK, down-sizing of large farms might be an advisable long-term strategy for tackling bTB, the study authors said.

    The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month marks the time in 1918 when the guns finally fell silent along the Western Front.    

  11. Wildlife group campaigning for helium balloon banpublished at 10:47

    The Cornwall Wildlife Trust is campaigning to get the release of helium-filled balloons banned.

    The charity said the release of latex balloons caused damage to wildlife causing the entanglement of seabirds and suffocation and starvation when ingested by marine turtles.

    Some local authorities, including Plymouth City Council, have already banned balloon releases.

    Launceston haveappointed former player Jimmy Tucker as their new head coach.

    The dairy farmer from South Petherwin played 13 seasons at Polson Bridge and has been helping coach the club's colts section for the past few years. 

    Tucker's appointment comes a day after Mike Lewis stepped down from the job after being offered a different role.

  15. Penzance man due in court after stabbingpublished at 10:04

    A man is due to appear before Truro Magistrates this morning, external after a stabbing in Penzance yesterday.

    Officers were called to a property in Colinsey Road just before 14:00 and found a 55-year-old man with a stab wound to the abdomen. He's now recovering in hospital following surgery. 

    The police say a local man, Gareth Mansell, 60, has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

  16. Firefighters tackle factory fire in south Devonpublished at 09:58

    Fire fighters have been tackling a factory fire in South Molton, external overnight.

    The blaze started in a hopper and a conveyor belt at a furniture makers around 23:00 - crews from South Molton, Barnstaple, Chulmleigh and the aeriel ladder platform from Exeter were involved. 

    The fire's out now but the machinery has been completely destroyed - the cause of the fire was accidental.

  17. Smoke alarm alerts residents to chimney firepublished at 09:47

    Excessive debris behind a wood burner in a house in Carnkie near Helston, external sparked a fire early this morning. 

    Twelve firefighters from Falmouth and Helston were called just after 02:00 after the home owners were woken by smoke alarms. 

    The chimney fire was swiftly extinguished and the wood burner removed from the lounge.  

  18. Brothers ask for Syrian refugee father to come to UKpublished at 09:37

    Two brothers have written an emotional plea to the Queen and Prime Minister, asking for permisison to bring their elderly father to Devon. 

    Abdulkarim Damous is 75, disabled and living in a park in Turkey after fleeing the civil war in Syria. His sons (pictured), who run a garage in Exeter and are British citizens, have repeatedly been refused a visa for him.

    A Home Office spokesman said: "All visa applications are considered on their individual merits, including any compelling and compassionate circumstances, and in line with the immigration rules."

  19. Travel news for Devon and Cornwallpublished at 09:29

    - Watch out for very slow traffic on the A39 Newquay Road in both directions between the Bodmin Road junction in Truro and Carland Cross in the roadworks area.

    -  Branwell Lane in Penzance is partially blocked and busy but moving near the Barnfield Gardens junction, because of an accident.

    -  There are delays on the M5 northbound between junctions 31 and 30 because of roadworks, with congestion onto the A38 to Splatford Split.
