    A sick sea turtle found stranded on a Cornish beach is given "emergency treatment" in a bid to save it.

    The rare juvenile loggerhead turtle was found on Gwithian Beach near Hayle on Wednesday.

    Steve Matchett, from the Blue Reef Aquarium, said a vet, who was an expert in marine turtles, was trying to stabilise the animal.

    He said the species was used to warm seas and becomes lethargic in the UK's cold waters.

    Four Devon doctors on the Greek island of Lesbos say they have been shocked at the state of refugees they are seeing.

    Dr Abby Fearon said: "There's been a huge range of ages, they must be so desperate to put their babies in the boats. It was minus 11 and one family had four babies very close to perishing from the cold.

    "They are fleeing something truly horrific to put their family through this."

    It will be an afternoon of bright, sunny spells and a scattering of showers. Some of the showers may be quite heavy.

    Among those gaining extra work from the tie is Shaul's bakery in Exeter which supplies pasties for games at St James Park.

    For a normal match the firm makes 300 but that order has been trebled for tomorrow's tie, which will attract a sell out crowd of more than 8,500.

    A Cornish patient who had her operation cancelled because of 'bed blocking' has called for more to be done to solve the problem.

    Today it's been revealed a scheme created to reduce bed blocking by a quarter actually saw numbers shoot up by 69% in a year - Cornish health managers have apologised.

    Iona Hevican from Newquay had her hysterectomy operation cancelled at the last minute last January because of bed shortages at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.

    She said: "Ordinary people are being pushed away. It was awful to have to fight to get into your own hospital."

    Plymouth Argyle manager Derek Adams says he hopes to start contract negotiations with his players soon.

    Most of his squad are out of contract in the summer, with players such as Graham Carey, Reuben Reid and Jake Jervis able to leave the club for nothing.

    "I hope to do that very soon," Adams said when asked when talks would begin. "I just need to get the go ahead to do that and then we'll be in a place to speak to the players because I think that's important."

    A team of volunteers from Devon - including four doctors - are out on the Greek island of Lesbos, helping with the refugee crisis and have been helping children in poor weather.

    They set off on New Year's Day and volunteer Rachel Lovell said: "Tonight it was extraordinarily heavy rain and I got soaked. Some children came in and were soaked to the skin.

    "They were alone because their parents had died, which was really sad... but we could look after them."

    Truro City are being forced to upgrade their Treyew Road ground despite moving stadium at the end of the season.

    The National League South club will spend about £50,000 to ensure it meets Football Association standards by the end of March.

    They will play just three home games there after the deadline before leaving to share Torquay's stadium, and will then move to their new Silver Bow site.

    A plan to pay farmers in England for allowing their land to be flooded is to be considered, the government has said.

    The National Farmers Union said it would support the plan, intended to protect towns and villages downstream.

    People who live next door to a new housing estate in north Devon say their lives have become a nightmare because their properties keep flooding.

    Several families claim water has been flowing into their gardens ever since the College Park estate in Bideford, which has a pond that water drains into, was built over two years ago. 

    The developers of the site Bloor Homes and Redrow insist the drainage scheme - which was approved by the Environment Agency - is working as it should.

    'Untidy Land' notices are being posted out on various sites, ordering the owners to carry out works necessary to improve the buildings' appearance.

    They include a prayer centre in Union Street and the Victoria Snooker Centre in St Budeaux. Earlier this year, the Council carried out a similar action, targeting five historic buildings and a derelict seafront hotel targeted by arsonists.

    Developers that fail to swiftly build properties when planning permission is in place should face stiff penalties, the Local Government Association says.

    Council tax should be paid on homes not built before initial planning approval expires, said the body representing English and Welsh councils.

    A scheme that aimed to reduce hospital 'bed blocking' in Cornwall by a quarter actually saw numbers shoot up by 69% in a year.

    Health organisations in Cornwall had shared resources in the hope of tackling the problem and following the rise Cornwall Council and NHS Kernow have apologised.

    Health campaigner Graham Webster said: "The Better Care Fund was meant to take the bull by the horns and resolve this situation. We are blocking numerous beds with patients that don't need to be there."

    A dairy farmer from south Devon says the future of his business is being put at risk by the appalling state of the road leading to his farm.

    Brian Merchant, who farms near Landscove, says he's been asking Devon Highways for the last four years to do something about the potholes and trenches - the lorry driver who collects his milk is threatening not to collect any more because the road is unsafe.    

    The county council has told BBC Radio Devon that it has been repairing potholes and is planning to repair a further 45.
