    Police say they'll complete a dig today at a house where a convicted paedophile couple lived in Devon.

    David and Pauline Williams were convicted of a series of sexual offences involving children as young as seven years old. 

    Officers began digging up the garden at their former home in Bradninch earlier this week, saying they were looking for the body of a child. So far nothing's been found. Officers say their work should be finished by the end of the day.

    It may be the second place in the South West to impose a restriction on second homes, but the St Ives "primary residence" policy for new-builds is being seen as highly significant.

    Cornwall Council's cabinet member for planning, Edwina Hannaford, told me she thinks it will be the first of many places in the county to bring in the measure - in fact, she says the local authority will be promoting it to other towns and parishes.

      It has also been watched closely by other authorities in second home hotspots across the country.

    The Conservative group leader of Exeter City Council has told the BBC he is "considering his position" after Labour exceeded their expectations winning 30 out of 39 seats.

    The conservatives took eight and the Liberal Democrats one. It gives Labour their biggest majority ever on the city council.

    The people of St Ives have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a ban on the building of new second homes in a local referendum. 

    Christopher Balch, professor of planning at Plymouth University, said while he "entirely understood" housing affordability was "the big issue" facing residents in St Ives, there were definitely some risks involved in the plan.

    "We live in a society where we have free markets [and] if you choke off new homes, second home owners may start buying existing homes," he said, adding this could "squeeze up" current prices.

    Prof Balch said other councils would be watching the impact of the policy in St Ives over the next 12 months.

    A person in a mobility scooter has been rescued, external after falling into a river at Tehidy Country Park between Redruth and Camborne.

    The Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service's specialist water rescue teams from Falmouth and Penzance were scrambled on Thursday evening, but on arrival found that the person had already been rescued by members of the public.

    It is a slight increase on the turnout for the first PCC election in 2012 - which stood at 14.7% in Devon and Cornwall.

    - On the A38 around Chudleigh heading towards Exeter one lane is blocked due to a vehicle fire.

    - On the A380 Telegraph Hill we've received reports of an overturned lorry which has shed its load. It is partially blocking the road heading towards Newton Abbot.

    Plymouth City Council remains in no overall control with both Labour and the Conservatives having the same number of seats.

    Voting took place for 19 of its 57 seats - about a third. 

    Labour previously had the most seats on the authority, with 28, followed by the Tories with 26.

    Overnight, the Conservatives gained one seat to take them up to 27 councillors, the same number as Labour, with UKIP remaining on three.

    Labour has retained control of Exeter City Council with an increased majority.

    The city had all 39 seats in 13 wards up for grabs after the number of councillors was reduced from 40.

    The reduction was made following a review of electoral arrangements by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England.

    Labour made gains from the Conservatives, winning 30 of the 39 seats on the Council.

    More than 80% of voters in St Ives have backed a ban on the building of new second homes.

    A referendum for local residents was held after a surge in holiday homes in the Cornish town and a shortage of affordable housing.

    Cornwall Council said there was a 42.7% turnout, of which 83.2% voted in favour of restrictions.
