    A woman arrested for theft in Torquay has claimed she was "working undercover" for a company called Mystery Shopping UK.

    Police in Manchester have issued a warning about the scam, which was first uncovered in Devon. The female, in Boots and Wilkinsons in Torquay, claimed she was employed by the fake company as a "personal shoplifter". It's a job that, of course, doesn't actually exist.

    The woman told officers she was given a list of items to steal, which she was then to send to Mystery Shopping UK. When she later attempted to speak to someone at the firm, there was no response.

    The company's website, external, shared by police, is still advertising a "Shoplifting/Theft Service," but Boots confirmed it did not use such a service. Newsbeat has also attempted to contact Mystery Shopping UK, but the company has not returned any calls.

    A building inspector has been called to a tanning salon which caught fire in Exmouth because of "some masonry being in a precarious position", the fire service says, external.

    Eight fire engines were called out to the blaze in the Consol Sun Centre on The Parade after it broke out at about 07:00. It was brought under control. Fifteen people were evacuated from adjoining flats and businesses.

    Fire crews have been at work with small tools from an aerial ladder platform, cutting away the roof to expose hot spots.

    The Exeter Book, a rare collection of Old English poems and riddles, deserves to have special status from Unesco because of its impact on English, a senior member of Exeter Cathedral says.

    The book, housed in the city's cathedral library, is thought to have been written around 970 AD, and experts believe it is one of only four Anglo-Saxon books of its kind in the world. It's going on Unesco's Memory of the World, external register as it has "world significance and outstanding universal value".

    Canon Librarian Ann Barwood said: "It has major significance in the world of English literature. In fact, it is, in all probability, the foundation document of English literature."

    Plymouth diver Sarah Barrow says she is aiming to reach the final in the 10m platform event at the 2016 Olympics.

    The 27-year-old overcame two years of chronic shin problems and a non-cancerous tumour to secure her qualification earlier this month.

    "It's been a long two years but I've worked with physios and we've got everything together at the right time," she told BBC Sport. "My goal is get into an Olympic final - if I can get to that who knows in the final, whatever happens."

    We asked earlier if you could solve Riddle 85 from the Exeter Book, which has been granted Unesco status for its "outstanding significance" to British history.

    It goes: 

    My hall is not silent, nor am I myself loud; about;

    I am swifter than he, at times stronger, he is more enduring. 

    Sometimes I rest; he must run forth. 

    I dwell in him forever, as long as I live; if we two separate I am doomed to death. 

    Q. What am I?

    Well, we had a couple of guesses, including Sally Pinion suggesting it was "Tongue in cheek", and Stephen Bailey saying it was "a pregnant woman and her baby inside".

    However, the answer is: The fish in the river.

    Two women have been treated for breathing in smoke after a fire broke out in a tanning salon in Exmouth, the ambulance service says.

    Eight fire engines were called out to the blaze in the Consol Sun Centre on The Parade after it broke out at about 07:00. It has now been brought under control.  

    Fifteen people were evacuated from flats and businesses adjoining the salon, with a branch of Ladbrokes next door and a flat above sustaining smoke damage. Other nearby properties strongly smell of smoke and soot. The cause of the blaze is not yet known.

    The manager of a tanning salon in Exmouth which caught fire is still waiting to hear what caused the blaze, she says.

    A total of eight fire engines have been dealing with the blaze in the Consol Sun Centre on The Parade after it broke out at about 07:00. It has now been brought under control.

    Manager Angela Dougal said: "There is a lot of tanning fluids and things in the back. According to a fireman I spoke to, that's probably what's gone up, but I don't know yet. I'm still waiting to hear."

  19. Witness appeal after four-vehicle road collision in Launcestonpublished at 11:56 British Summer Time 21 June 2016

    Police are appealing for witnesses following a four-vehicle collision in Launceston on Sunday morning.

    The incident happened just after 01:00 when a Peugeot 106 driven by a 21-year-old local man collided with a parked Renault car on Tavistock Road. This pushed the Renault into two further parked vehicles. 

    Officers said the driver suffered a head and facial injury and his male passenger suffered a serious leg injury described as "life-changing". Both were taken to Derriford Hospital for treatment.
