    Outbreaks of rain arriving in the west will spread further eastwards, becoming locally heavy for a time, before clearing eastwards this afternoon and becoming brighter again by evening. South to southwesterly winds will become fresh to strong, before veering to the northwest and perhaps briefly touching gale-force in gusts around the coast. Maximum temperature: 18C (64F).

    Tonight, it'll be dry at first, with patchy cloud and some clear spells. But cloud will increase again and rain will spread from the west by morning, becoming locally heavy again in places. Winds will become moderate or fresh and increasing occasionally becoming strong. Minimum temperature: 12C (54F).

    The A361 Western Bypass in Barnstaple is closed in both directions between Lake Roundabout and Portmoor Roundabout, because of fallen power cables. Police are directing traffic.

  4. Police appeal for witnesses after assault in Tivertonpublished at 13:51 BST 28 June 2016

    Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault on Lea Road in Tiverton, which left a man with minor injuries.

    The incident happened at about 21:30 on 24 June opposite the entrance to the Tesco Express car park.

    Police said the confrontation took place between the occupants of a Red Volkswagen and a dark coloured Ford Mondeo. A 29-year-old man received minor injuries and a 42-year-old woman has been arrested and questioned in connection with the incident. She has been bailed until 1 August pending further investigations.

    Parents fear they will be living in a "museum village" if a local school is closed.

    Tipton St John Primary School, which has about 90 pupils, has been in the village for more than 200 years. School governors are consulting on plans to move it to nearby Ottery St Mary after repeated flooding at the Tipton site.

    Father-of-two Matt Davidson, 46, said he and his family chose to live in Tipton over other villages "because there's lots of activities and that's based on the school". He said: "It's the heart of the community and that's why we're fighting for it. I want to be part of a community that is going places rather than stagnating."

    Head teacher Colin Butler said: "We must secure a long-term future for our school with the prospect of more frequent flooding as our climate changes."

  7. Cyber attacks boy was 'caught red handed', court hearspublished at 13:22 BST 28 June 2016

    A 16-year-old boy has admitted cyber attacks around the world including on Devon and Cornwall Police and SeaWorld. 

    The teenager, who cannot be named, appeared at Plymouth Youth Court to admit three offences under Section 3 of the Computer Misuse Act, but denied charges of sending bomb hoaxes to airlines.

    The court heard that following police interviews, a Twitter account used by the boy tweeted the Operation Zephyr Regional Cyber Crime Unit. One tweet said: "To be fair they caught me red handed", while a second added: "I still maintain the utmost respect for Zephyr". The trial continues.

  8. Police launch new email to ease pressure on 101 servicepublished at 13:18 BST 28 June 2016

    Think before you call, and click rather than phone, that's the message from Devon and Cornwall Police as it makes another attempt to reduce the pressure on its 101 phone number. 

    The non-emergency service has been heavily criticised for delays in answering calls, with some people hanging up after waiting half-an-hour. More on BBC Spotlight at 13:30.

  9. Motorcyclist airlifted to hospital after road crashpublished at 13:10 BST 28 June 2016

    An air ambulance has taken a motorcyclist to hospital after a collision on the road between Connor Downs and Roseworthy. 

    Emergency services were called to the scene involving a Triumph motorcycle and a tractor on the A3047 just before 08:00.

    Officers said the motorcyclist suffered serious injuries.

  11. Teenager denies 'tick, tick, ticking' plane bomb threatpublished at 12:54 BST 28 June 2016

    A teeanger tweeted a threat to an airline about an aircraft having a "tick, tick, ticking in it", a court has heard.

    The 16-year old was accused at Plymouth Youth Court of telling American Airlines on 13 February last year: "One of those lovely Boeing airplanes has a tick, tick, ticking in it. Hurry gentlemen, the clock is ticking."

    The boy, 15 at the time, has admitted cyber attacks around the world, including on Devon and Cornwall Police and SeaWorld, but denies charges of sending bomb hoaxes to American Airlines and also to Delta Airlines. Bomb threats were also sent to the White House. The FBI decided to take no immediate action because there was no specific threat, the court heard. The trial continues.

  13. Row over plans to close village schoolpublished at 12:30

    Parents in East Devon are fighting plans to close their village school and move it to a town.

    Tipton St John Primary School has been in the village since the 1840s, but those in charge say there's no government funding to keep it there. 

    Instead there are plans to build a new school - double the size - in Ottery.

  14. Police appeal for witnesses after cyclist deathpublished at 12:15

    Devon and Cornwall Police are appealing for witnesses after a man died while cycling on the A379 in Devon.

    The collision between the cyclist and a Hyundai occurred at around 11:50 on Thursday 16 June on Blackpool Hill at Stoke Fleming, near Blackpool Sands. 

    Officers would like to hear from anyone who can help with their investigation by emailing 101@dc.police.uk, external or calling 101 and quoting log number 312 for 16 June.

    • On the Station Approach in South Brent, the road is partially blocked near the village hall, because of an accident.
    • On the A380 Hamelin Way in Torquay, the road is partially blocked around Gallows Gate Roundabout, because of an accident.

    Newly-promoted League One side Oxford United has signed Exeter City right-back Christian Ribeiro on a two-year deal.

    The 26-year-old ex-Bristol City trainee scored six goals in 78 appearances over two seasons with the Grecians but was not offered a new deal at the end of the League Two season.

    "He is powerful, a good athlete and has plenty of experience for someone his age so we think he will do very well for us," Oxford boss Michael Appleton told the club website.

    A 16-year-old schoolboy has admitted launching cyber attacks on websites around the world. 

    He pleaded guilty to bombarding sites in Africa, Asia, Europe and North America leading to a denial of service, Plymouth Youth Court heard.

    The youth has admitted three charges of doing an act to hinder access to a programme or data held in a computer. The three charges, under the 1990 Computer Misuse Act, relate to periods between October and January 2015. 

    But the boy, who was 15 at the time, has denied two further charges of sending bomb hoaxes to both American Airlines and Delta Airlines.

    A 16-year-old boy from Plymouth has pleaded guilty to cyber attacks on websites around the world, including Devon and Cornwall Police and SeaWorld in America.  

    The trial at Plymouth Youth Court started this morning. The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded not guilty to two other charges of hoax bomb threats against two American Airlines via Twitter. 

    The trial continues.
