    A woman who was raped as a teenager in 1987 has described decades of living in fear until her attacker was caught.

    David Mears, now 60, was arrested earlier this year after new forensic techniques were used.

    Mears, from Plymouth, has been sentenced to life with a minimum term in jail of eight years.

    More humane cages are being drafted in to try and catch a lynx that escaped from Dartmoor Zoo on Thursday.

    Keepers have 25 humane traps dotted around the zoo boundary and in surrounding land and have now brought in two larger humane traps, which they believe will offer a better chance of catching the cat.

    Nuclear waste from 12 laid-up submarines at Devonport will be stored at Capenhurst nuclear site in Cheshire.

    The Ministry of Defence announcement means Devonport can start removing the subs' radioactive reactors and dismantle the vessels as soon as the facilities are in place.

    Capenhurst will store the reactors from a total of 27 laid-up nuclear subs at Devonport and Rosyth until a permanent site is found "some time after 2040".

    Nuclear fuel which remains on eight of the 12 subs at Devonport will be taken to Sellafield in Cumbria.

    Benjamin Mee, director of Dartmoor Zoo, said that overnight police used drones to hover "over the field where we thought the lynx was and there was indeed a lynx-sized dot, with cows nearby to give a comparison".

    He told BBC News: "We used a human cordon to try and move him towards the humane traps.

    "We're now going to give him enough space and time to rest and get hungry." Mr Mee added. He hopes the lynx will enter a humane trap to feed tonight.

    Police have closed a road to allow a specialist team to remove a "large amount" of drugs and equipment from a three-storey building in Devon.

    Officers were called to the former Axe Vale Social Club in Chard Street, Axminster, after reports of a strong smell of cannabis in the area.

    A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of the production of cannabis. The man remains in police custody while investigations are ongoing.

    It is not clear how long the operation will take, a spokesman said.

    A charity in the South West wanting to rehome dogs from Hungary claims tens of thousands of them die there every year in "killing stations".

    People across Devon and Cornwall have been adopting dogs from the country to save them from being killed.

    The Hungarian government has admitted it doesn't know how many dogs are put down in rescue centres and pounds.

    Police in Newquay are to become the first in Britain to use Segway machines while out on patrol. 

    The two-wheeled, self-balancing electric vehicles are already used overseas and have been donated to the force meaning there's no cost involved.

    Prison officers at HM Dartmoor have joined colleagues from across England and Wales in an unofficial walkout in protest against plans to change how they work.

    They say their concerns have been "ignored". 

    Officers say they have been "undermined" over proposals to reform the system of offender management within jails. There is also concern over safety, with almost 5,000 assaults on prison staff nationally last year.

    The Prison Service says it will "continue to work closely" with the unions to address their concerns and insists that the welfare of its staff is one of its key priorities.

    Volunteers and staff at Dartmoor Zoo have formed a human cordon to try to capture Flaviu, the lynx that escaped from the wildlife park in the early hours of Thursday morning.

    Two police drones with thermal imaging equipment have identified an animal the size of the wild cat in fields near the zoo.

    Staff have also discovered two of the baited traps have been disturbed and there are animal tracks around the park. They hope to recover the animal in the next few hours.

    Zoo staff trying catch an escaped lynx say their main concerns are the safety of the public and for the welfare of Flaviu.

    The animal escaped on Thursday and staff and police have since located the cat in farmland close to the zoo, but now need to catch him.

    Staff said he was extremely timid and his instinct was to stay away from people.
