    Police have found a car they believe may have been used in a fatal hit and run.

    The body of a 45-year-old woman was found in a ditch near Rock in north Cornwall early this morning.

    Police said they found a Land Rover Defender at around 14:45 at Exeter St David's Railway Station which had damage "consistent with damage the vehicle they are trying to trace may have sustained".

    The car has been taken away for a forensic examination and no arrests have yet been made.

    A headland in Cornwall being bought by the National Trust is a "classic National Trust acquisition", staff say.

    Trevose Head, near Padstow, covers 221.5 acres and is part of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The trust said its ownership would mean the area would be protected and have its habitat and wildlife areas maintained. 

    The area, which has been in the same family since about 1900, was put on the market in March and was expected to be sold for up to £4m.

    Ian Kemp, from the trust, said: "It really is one of the jewels in the crown of the Cornish coast. We're very happy, very excited and looking forward to it coming into the trust's care."

    Cornwall Council has voted to lobby the government to try and help women who are having to wait five years longer than they expected for their state pension. 

    A small demonstration, organised by the Women Against State Pension Inequality, was held outside County Hall by campaigners who said due changes were unfair. 

    Many women born between April 1951 and 1960 have claimed they were not aware the age was being raised by up to six years so the start of pay-outs would be equalised for men and women by 2020

    The Department for Work and Pensions said the equalisation of the pension age was announced more than 20 years ago and righted a "longstanding inequality".

    Shoppers were reminded to thoroughly wash mixed salad leaves amid concern that the food could be the source of an E. coli 0157 outbreak that has killed two and infected more than 150 people in the UK.

    Public Health England, external said on Monday that, of more than 140 cases in England, most were clustered in the South West.

    On one of the hottest days of the year, bus operator First Kernow has announced it's going to cut prices this summer... but only when it's raining.

    The company said all day tickets would be sold at half price when there's rain falling: from a light drizzle to a monsoon. 

    Bosses said it was hoped the move would get people to use the bus to get out rather than staying inside when it was wet.

    Plymouth's Trading Standards team is working with police to deal with a spate of complaints about rogue traders and unscrupulous tradesmen targeting elderly and vulnerable people as an "absolute priority", the city council says.

    The Trading Standards team, external said it was looking into "a series of incidents" of tradesmen using high-pressure selling during cold calls to carry out work such as power-washing, roof repairs and guttering, which was then found to be shoddy or overcharged for. 

    Anyone who was making a complaint should "provide as much information as you can, including any vehicle number plates", the team said.

    High temperatures have been disrupting trains between London, the West and the South West, with speeds being cut over fears of rails buckling.

    Great Western Railway (GWR) has amended some services from 13:30 to 19:00, including some from Paddington, because of the heat. 

    Network Rail said modern rails were far more resistant to buckling but "on a day this hot" speeds needed to be restricted for safety.

    Torquay United chairman David Phillips says the club's planned takeover depends on the new owners being able to buy the club's Plainmoor ground.

    The freehold is currently owned by Torbay Council, but prospective owners Gaming International Limited want to sell the ground and build a new stadium on a different site.

    "We are fully aware that delay and uncertainty is potentially damaging to the football club," Phillips said in a statement. "We are therefore urging the Mayor and Torbay Council to confirm their intentions in relation to the football ground as a matter of urgency to enable us to move forward."
