    A coach driver has been found guilty of killing two women in a road crash in Cornwall.

    Martin Chun, 59, from Whitestone, near Exeter, was found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving by a majority verdict of 11 to one by a jury at Truro Crown Court

    The coach, with 51 passengers on board, was on an Age Concern trip when it crashed on a steep hill near Looe in Cornwall in May 2014. Chun had denied causing the deaths of Margaret Luxton, 59, and 68-year-old Carol Muldoon.

    Cornwall is to hold a victory parade for Penzance's Olympics double gold medalist Helen Glover.

    The parade will be held on Sunday 4 September and will parade through Glover's home town of Penzance.

    Police are continuing investigations into the death of a man who died when a car crashed through railings and over the edge of a cliff in Devon.

    Emergency services were called to Corbyn Head in Torquay at about 01:15 on Sunday and two RNLI lifeboats were launched after the crash.

    Officers said, external they were called to a "report of a blue BMW X5 which had left Torbay Road and driven through a barrier and then over the cliff at Corbyn headland, coming to a rest on the beach". A 41-year-old man - the sole occupant of the vehicle - was pronounced deceased at the scene, they added.

    Police said: "A witness to the incident left the scene without leaving his details and police are appealing for him, and any other witnesses to the incident, to come forward to assist the inquiry."

    Truro's City of Lights annual festival will not feature parades of lanterns through the city centre, organisers say.

    Instead, the event, in its 20th year, "will be moving into Victoria Gardens" and be open for three evenings in November because it is "evolving and expanding", festival managers said on Facebook, external.

    Organisers said the move "means that our wonderful audiences will be able to enjoy City of Lights at their own pace through the gardens and that there will be more opportunities to see and be part of the event".

    A species of crab which had not been seen in Devon for more than 30 years has been found living on a stretch of coast close to Plymouth, the Devon Wildlife Trust says, external.

    The crustacean, most commonly known as the St Piran’s crab, has been found in Wembury Bay by a trust volunteer on a rockpool safari run by the charity from its Wembury Marine Centre.

    The last record of the hermit crab - which uses the empty shells of other molluscs to make a home - in Devon was in 1985. Trust volunteer John Hepburn, who discovered it, described it as a "pretty special find".

    In Newquay, holidaymaker Rudy Bruynius died after he and his family were knocked off rocks by a large wave at South Fistral Beach on Friday evening. His two-year-old daughter remains in a critical condition in hospital. 

    Emma Watkins, maritime operations officer at Falmouth Coastguard, said they did as much as they could to get the safety message across. She said: "The RNLI works hard with its campaigns, we have people that put out weather warnings on a regular basis, we do our best to do accident prevention and surveillance ... we do try our best to do all we can."

  14. Man dies after Glynn Valley road crashpublished at 11:44 British Summer Time 22 August 2016

    A man has died and another man is in hospital in a critical condition after a road collision near Bodmin.

    Police said, external a Saab and a Ford Fiesta collided on the A38 in the Glynn Valley at about 02:15 on Friday, resulting in a "number of people" being taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

    The driver of the Saab, a 60-year-old man from Plymouth, died in hospital. The Ford's driver, an 18-year-old man from Bodmin, suffered multiple serious injuries and remains in a critical but stable condition at Derriford.

    A third vehicle, a Mercedes Vito van, sustained minor damage as a result of debris from the collision, officers said. The road was closed for nine hours for an investigation. Police have appealed for witnesses.

    A long established factory in Devon is under threat of closure with the loss of almost 30 jobs. 

    Relyon, in Okehampton, make mattresses and headboards. A source at the factory told the BBC staff were very deflated at the news. 

    Some people have worked there for more than 30 years he said. A consultation is underway on the factory's closure.

    In a statement, its owners Steinhoff UK said the operational and logistical costs of keeping the site open meant it was no longer viable. Alternative employment was being sought for the 28 staff, it added.

    A two-year-old girl remains in a critical condition in hospital in Bristol after being swept into the sea in an incident which killed her father, police say, external.

    Holidaymaker Rudy Bruynius died after he and his family were knocked off rocks by a large wave at South Fistral Beach on Friday evening while in Newquay.

    His daughter, Mckayla, was recovered from the sea by lifeboat before being flown to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth. She was later transferred to Bristol Children's Hospital. Mr Bruynius' wife and two other children were also recovered from the sea by the RNLI.

    Officers also confirmed they were "investigating the circumstances" of the incident and have appealed for witnesses. Det Con Jarrod Yewen, from Newquay CID, said: "This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time."
