    An important Bronze Age settlement which has been hidden on Dartmoor for thousands of years is to be revealed.

    It covers about five acres of Buckland Common, near Ashburton, and includes a boundary wall with four hut circles inside.

    At the moment, the ancient monuments are invisible because they're covered with vegetation. But now a five-year project between the National Park and Historic England is under way to clear it.

    An appeal set up to help the family of a man who died after he was swept into the sea has raised more than £22,000 out of a target of £28,000.

    Rudy Bruynius, from Surrey, died after he and his family were knocked off rocks by a large wave at South Fistral Beach at 17:20 on Friday while holidaying in Newquay.

    An RNLI sea scooter was used to rescue his wife, Lisinda, while a lifeboat was deployed to recover Mr Bruynius and his two-year-old daughter, Mckayla. She was taken to Bristol Children’s Hospital. Her last-known condition was described as serious. 

    Friends are raising money to help Lisinda Bruynius and the couple's three children on a JustGiving page.

    Devon Olympian Jo Pavey says she has no plans to retire at present.

    The 42-year-old middle-distance runner from Honiton has just returned from Rio - the mum-of-two's fifth Games - and she has not dismissed returning to the track in Tokyo in four years' time.

    She said: "I wouldn't rule it out. Realistically I would presume I'd be too old in a way, but I'm just going to take it one stage at a time. I haven't got thoughts of retiring yet. I'm still enjoying it, there are still things that I'm aiming for, and I know it sits well with our family life."

    A 17-year-old woman has died after a road collision in Cornwall, police say, external.

    The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene after a Vauxhall Corsa and Peugeot 308 collided on the A3082 at Polmear Hill, between Par and Fowey, at about 21:20 on Saturday.

    Police said her family had been informed although she has yet to be formally identified.

    The Olympic flame has been extinguished at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, bringing to a close the 2016 Games. 

    The carnival-inspired closing ceremony gave Team GB's athletes the chance to celebrate coming second in the medal table - making it their most successful Olympics in more than a century.

    Penzance's Helen Glover (pictured left) said no-one could have predicted how well the Games went for Team GB.

    The women's pairs rowing gold medallist said: "When we flew out, we hoped it, dreamed it. But the fact that it's happened, I think is amazing for everyone. I know that, in Penzance, they're planning a celebration, and it will be so, so special. It will be great to relive it again back at home."

    Seventy-five patients had to wait more than a year for NHS treatment at hospitals in the South West in the past year. 

    The longest wait was 143 weeks for one patient at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital. Managers said the patient came to no harm and had since been discharged.

    Lack of capacity and cancellations were among the reasons being blamed for the delays. The target waiting time is about four months. 

    Thirty-nine of those were waiting for care at Derriford Hospital. Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust apologised for any delays and said it had new processes in place.

    The Coastguard has urged holidaymakers and swimmers to be aware of lifeguards' warnings and changeable weather after six people died in seas around Britain.

    Strong winds and high tides are feared to be behind the deaths of three men, two women and a young boy in Cornwall, Aberdeen, Dorset, Essex and Jersey.

    Rudy Bruynius (pictured) died after he was swept into the sea while holidaying in Newquay on Friday. An appeal has been set up to help his family. His two-year old daughter is in a serious condition.

    The UK Coastguard says people should be careful around surging waves. James Instance from the agency said: "Do listen to warnings and stay at a safe distance from the water."
