    Tributes have been paid to a woman who died in a car crash in Okehampton.

    Marin Evans, from Bradford, near Holsworthy, died in a collision on the A3079 at Thorndon Cross on 13 August.

    She has been described as an accomplished and effortless swimmer, who "dreamt of world travel". The 25-year-old's family said they were "heartbroken and she will be sadly missed".

    A rare blue lobster is to be released back into the sea after being caught off Devon.

    The surprising catch was made by keen amateur fisherman Robin Carter, who is the director of Ladram Bay Holiday Park , externalat Otterton and his friend Keith Setter.

    The odds of catching a blue lobster - so-coloured because of a genetic abnormality - are thought to be about two million to one.

    The number of community energy projects in Devon has rapidly grown in the past five years, Regen SW has told BBC News.

    These are projects, including solar and wind installations, that are owned by local people with surplus money reinvested into the community.

    A woman from Cornwall is calling for better awareness of sepsis - or blood poisoning, external - among medics and the wider community, citing how she became "really poorly, really quickly" when she developed the condition.

    Sarah Pascoe almost lost her life earlier this year after she had an extreme reaction to an insect bite.

    She said: "I got really poorly, really quickly, and I’m meant to be a fit, healthy, youngish woman. If I’d been a child, if I’d been older, if I’d had a medical condition, I probably wouldn’t be here."

    Exeter's injury problems have eased for their EFL Cup second-round tie against Premier League side Hull at home tonight.

    History-making Olympic cyclist and Tour de France champion Sir Bradley Wiggins is due to take part in the Tour of Britain, which includes a stage in Devon, Devon County Council says, external.

    Sir Bradley - the first Briton to win eight Olympic medals, including his fifth Gold at the Rio Games - will be cycling with his own team, Team WIGGINS, which includes Owain Doull and Jonathan Dibben.

    The tour begins in Glasgow on Sunday 4 September. The Devon stage, Stage Six, takes place on 9 September.

    Safety measures around a river in Cornwall in which three dogs drowned recently are being reviewed, the Environment Agency says.

    Fears have been raised about the Carnon River at Bissoe, which runs alongside a busy Cornish cycle path. Some sections are just 1ft wide but 8ft deep, with some parts of the waterway hidden by long grass, and it also flows underground in places. The latest incident last week saw a five-month-old German pointer puppy drown.

    The Environment Agency said: "We are extremely sorry to hear about the recent incident. The watercourse is very narrow in places, with steep and unstable banks, and poor water quality in the river from old mine workings. We will again review the (safety) measures in place."

    Local and national organisations have condemned plans to extend badger culling in England to five new zones in a government bid to try to prevent the disease from returning. 

    Shooting of badgers will begin in early September in north Cornwall, north Devon and south Devon, the BBC understands

    • The RSPCA said it was "alarmed" and "firmly opposed" to culls, adding "we have not seen any evidence that the pilot culls have succeeded in reducing bovine TB in the cull areas and we have serious concerns about the humaneness of the culling methods used"
    • The Badger Trust said it "condemned" the decision "despite the complete failure of the policy over the last four years"
    • The Devon Wildlife Trust said on Facebook, external it was a "bad day for Devon's wildlife. And a bad day for the fight against bovine TB", adding it would "continue to oppose the unscientific, inhumane, costly and ineffective badger cull"

    The number of community energy projects in Devon has grown rapidly in the past five years, according to Regen SW. 

    About 30 have been created since 2012. 

    It's estimated that, in the South West, they now have a joint capacity to provide enough energy to power more than 10,000 homes.

    A 37-year-old man who admitted threatening to kill a Labour MP in a two-minute answerphone rant is due to be sentenced later.

    Geoffrey Farquaharson left the "venomous" message on the Westminster phone of Exeter MP Ben Bradshaw the day before Jo Cox MP was shot and stabbed in June.

    Farquaharson, who could be facing a jail sentence, also made a derogatory, homophobic remark about the openly-gay MP.
