MP Ben Bradshaw says he does not want any changes forced on Devon's health care system purely because "the government is not providing enough money".
Today a report revealed health bosses in Devon were considering cutting hospital services in the county, including axing more than 400 acute hospital beds. Mr Bradshaw said it was fine if the reforms improved services but said he hoped they was not exclusively prompted by financial pressures.
"We all know that Devon is in one of the worst financial straits of any bit of the NHS in the whole of the country and our local health managers are going to have to work within the spending limits set to them by government," he said.
Tensions are rising in Bodmin, external ahead of road closures which will be put in place on Monday as part of plans to "transform" the town for cyclists. The proposals have provoked uproar over the projected nine months of traffic chaos.
Friends of the woman whose arm was ripped off by a parked car in Cornwall say they hope she will be given a prosthetic arm.

"Much to people's amazement, really and truly, people have said to me at the age of 78 she's lucky to be alive with an accident like that, and after that kind of trauma," Claire Butler said.
The sister of missing East Devon teenager Arthur Heeler-Frood has said it is "totally out of character", external for her brother to skip school.
Residents in Lelant say the council is using a "sledge hammer to crack a nut" as it addresses ongoing traffic problems.
Last night nearly 200 people attended a town meeting where residents called on their councillor Liz Penhaligon to resign. Her spokesman said she was likely to make a statement after the weekend.
Residents discussed the introduction of double yellow lines which were painted on the Saltings Reach this morning. Bill Fry, who lives on the road says tourists had been parking on the road in the summer to use the park and ride but said a blanket parking ban all year round was "totally unnecessary".

The draft plans to make cuts across hospitals in Devon include making major savings through “rationalisation of estate” – selling off buildings.
This will be of particular concern to campaigners fighting to save some of the smaller NHS sites such as community hospitals.
This Sustainability and Transformation Plan is one of 44 being submitted across England. But Devon’s plan to make savings may be more drastic than some others. That's because much of the county is already in a so-called Success Regime to tackle a massive overspend by trusts and commissioners. If nothing changes the projected total overspend for all the county’s health trusts and commissioners would reach £572m by 2020/21.
The draft plan says the challenges are significant and calls for “a transformational mindset, courage and support from national bodies”. But, we are warned that if the NHS locally doesn't balance its books, national NHS bosses will decide what to cut for them.
Are the charges in car parks in Cornwall just too complicated, external, leaving motorists to fall foul of rules they fail to understand? The introduction of a flat rate charge after 5pm in some car parks appears to have caused confusion and consternation among the public.
Special pet oxygen masks will be issued to fire teams in Cornwall to help save the lives of family pets in the event of a fire.

The kits have been provided by the not-for-profit organisation Smokey Paws. The masks will be handed over later this month and will be carried on fire engines in Tolvaddon, Newquay, Padstow and St Dennis.

Thousands of pregnant women are still not being vaccinated against whooping cough despite cases rising by 50% in the South West, NHS England has said.
Image source, PAWhooping cough - known medically as pertussis - is an infection which can create serious breathing difficulties, particularly in babies and young children, and can lead to major health complications such as brain damage and pneumonia, which can be fatal.
But 40% of pregnant women are not taking up the vaccination despite the protection it offers to their newborn child.

Torquay United have not received any money as part of the transfer of former player Eunan O'Kane to Leeds from AFC Bournemouth, despite having a sell-on clause of 15% in his contract.

A man has been impersonating a police officer in Exeter, Devon and Cornwall Police have said.
The man is allegedly attempting to gain entrance to properties in the Beacon Heath area of the city by claiming that he is an officer, Devon and Cornwall Police said.
The man - who is not wearing a uniform and uses a handwritten ID - is described as a being white, in his 40s or 50s and wears a dark blue baseball cap.
Police say they believe he is targeting the elderly.
A hospital trust in Cornwall says it has rearranged a 77-year-old woman's health appointments to allow her daughter to travel with her to the hospital.
Diane Wheeler had criticised the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust Patient Transport Service after she was told she could not accompany her mother to Treliske for vital cancer surgery.
In a statement the Royal Cornwall Hospital NHS Trust said: "We have now been made aware of a number of other factors relating to Mrs Wheeler's mother's health and arrangements have been made to reschedule her appointment so that she can be accompanied on her hospital visit."
The number of council workers taking sick days due to stress or mental health issues, external has gone up for the second year running.
Up to one in 20 rail passengers could be travelling without a valid ticket on some routes, according to new research.
A sample of more than 23,000 South West Trains passengers found that as many as 5.5% avoid paying the correct fare.

An 83-year-old nurse who still works 15 to 20 hours a week says she has "no plans" to retire.

When she's not working, the grandmother, who turned 83 on 1 September, is a gym-bunny and attends regular spinning classes.
A pilot who died at Newquay Airport after crashing on landing was offered more training just before the flight, it has been revealed.
Tony Richards, 68, from North Cornwall, was landing a small plane last August when the aircraft bounced on landing - it then entered a steep descent crashing on the runway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Air Accident Investigation Branch report shows Mr Richards bought the plane in the Czech Republic just before the flight.
The pilot took part in some familiarisation training and an instructor had offered additional sessions. The offer was rejected by Mr Richards. The pilot was also reported to have said he was tired just before the last leg of the flight.
