    Campaigners say people will not accept plans to axe almost one in six acute hospital beds in Devon.

    The NHS Northern, Eastern and Western Devon Clinical Commissioning Group has also proposed closing some services at North Devon District Hospital, as part of reforms which will involve 900 hospital staff changing roles.

    "When I looked at the report I first felt shock, and then when it sunk in anger and defiance really. These proposed cuts, people across north Devon will not accept, and across the whole of Devon," campaigner John Wardman says.

    Commissioners have told the BBC nothing is definite and there will be public consultations into the plans.

    Friends of a 78-year-old woman whose arm was ripped off after it got trapped in a parked car in Cornwall have said surgeons were unable to reattach it.

    Claire Butler, who has been friends with Maggie Hayes for 25 years, said it was hoped her arm, which was severed above the elbow, could be reattached after she was sent to Derriford Hospital.

    "Unfortunately Maggie has lost her right arm," Ms Butler said.

    It is understood Ms Hayes leant into the car outside a house in Cornwall when it lurched forward, trapping her arm.

    More than 50 tonnes of discarded, lost or abandoned fishing nets known as "ghost gear" have been found around the coast of Devon and Cornwall.

    Between November 2014 and October 2015, Cornwall Seal Group members surveyed ghost gear washed up on the beaches around Cornwall and parts of Devon and the Isles of Scilly.

    They said they collected a total of 4,226 items, weighing 51 tonnes.

    People in West Cornwall have their first chance today to look at plans for the resumption of passenger helicopter services to the Isles of Scilly.

    A group of local investors want to use fields on the edge of Penzance for a new heliport. They plan a revived helicopter service to St Mary's and Tresco, but using a smaller aircraft than what was used in the service which closed in 2012.

    The plans will be shown to the public at the Acorn Theatre in Penzance, ahead of a planning application being submitted to the council.

    A campaigner has said health bosses must "feel the power of local people" over plans to close almost one in six acute hospital beds in Devon.

    Dave Clinch, from the Save Our Hospital Services Campaign in north Devon, said campaigners had already put commissioners "under tremendous pressure", adding "we can make our feelings known by being on the streets, at the hospital, and going to the meetings as we have done".

    The Sustainability and Transformation Plan, seen exclusively by the BBC, also proposes the closure of some services at North Devon District Hospital, though commissioners say nothing is definite and there will be public consultations.

    A group of disgruntled homeowners in the South West are joining forces to take on one of the country's leading builders.

    They have joined a social media campaign which has 250 members nationwide, including 30 from Bovis estates in Devon and Cornwall. 

    All claim to have suffered a variety of problems with their new build homes - including damp, and ill-fitting doors.

    In a statement, Bovis Homes said it was in the process of resolving any outstanding issues and the firm "endeavour to get everything right first time". It added its new homes guarantee was an obligation it took "extremely seriously".

    Wildlife campaigners have found more than 50 tonnes of abandoned fishing nets around the coast of Devon and Cornwall, some from as far away as Canada.

    The Cornwall Seal Group say the so-called 'ghost gear' is a danger to seals and other marine mammals which get entangled in the mesh.

    More than 50 creatures including seals, birds and crabs were found tangled in nets during the year-long survey.

    Almost one in six acute hospital beds in Devon could close under draft plans seen exclusively by the BBC.

    The Sustainability and Transformation Plan also proposes to close some services at North Devon District Hospital, although accident and emergency should remain. 

    Around 900 hospital staff across the county would have to change roles. But health commissioners say nothing's definite and there will be a public consultation.
