A parking warden seen slapping a ticket on a nurse's car - which was displaying a sign saying the nurse was on call - has provoked a storm of protest on Facebook., external
A Devon County Council (DCC) spokesman said the nurse could appeal but there was no exemption for double yellow lines, even for nurses.
Paul Brodie, who saw the warden issuing the ticket in Island Street, Salcombe said: "It was explained to him that the nurse was tending to an elderly patient but he just carried on.
"She was bandaging an elderly man's leg at the time."
Kelly Carr wrote: "I've had two parking tickets as a nurse both while I've been on duty! As much as I appealed I still ended up having to pay! It's disgrace."
“We value and support those who provide care in our communities and we offer special parking exemptions which we promote through our website and through clinical commissioning teams," said a council spokesman.
“This exemption allows parking without time limit or payment in limited waiting areas, residents’ parking and on-street pay and display parking areas within the DCC boundaries."

The family of Guernsey woman, Sarah Groves - who was found dead on a houseboat in Kashmir - has responded to a court verdict that has cleared two men over the death of a British teenager in Goa.
The body of 15-year-old Scarlett Keeling from Devon, was found on a beach in Anjuna, Goa in 2008. Her mother, Fiona MacKeown, said she will appeal the verdict.
Miss Groves, 24, was found dead on a houseboat she shared with a local family in Srinagar, Kashmir, in April 2013.
A Dutch national is accused of murdering Miss Groves, but he denies all the charges.
Quote MessageI feel for the mother, I'm not surprised by the outcome. The sad thing is that case is cold now. But the case of Sarah is very different. A Dutchman is on remand... but we don't know what the outcome will be. It could go either way"

The mother of a north Devon teenager Scarlett Keeling said she would always "regret" allowing her daughter to go to the Valentine's Day beach party in Goa, India where the youngster was killed.
Speaking before two men were cleared in Goa of her rape and death, she told BBC News: "Mostly people don't know the facts when they say I left her on the beach on her own or with her 29-year-old boyfriend. He wasn't her boyfriend and I didn't leave her on her own.
