    Reigning British champion surfer Luke Dillon begins his attempt to represent Great Britain at the Tokyo Olympics this week in Costa Rica as he competes in the World Surfing League.

    Competition for places at Tokyo will be tough as the 2020 Olympics will welcome only 40 Olympic surfing athletes to the competition.

    Dillon, 21, from Newquay, said: "The decision by the International Olympic Committee to include surfing in the Olympic Games was a huge moment for me personally, and it's come at a perfect time for me.

    "I want to be on the plane to Tokyo to represent my country."

    The mother of British schoolgirl Scarlett Keeling who was killed on a family holiday to India said she would "regret for the rest of my life" the decision to allow her daughter to go to the beach party alone.

    Fiona MacKeown from north Devon is battling for a reinvestigation into her daughter's killing in India in 2008. 

    She has written to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi after two men were cleared of raping and killing the 15-year-old in Goa. 

    Ms MacKeown told ITV 1's Good Morning Britain that the investigative process was initially hindered by a reluctance in the Indian criminal justice system to admit a tourist had been murdered.

    A former paediatrician has denied downloading and distributing movies which showed serious child abuse. 

    Dr Jonathan Walsh, aged 47, worked at North Devon District Hospital in Barnstaple when he allegedly distributed the images through a file sharing site.

    Dr Walsh, from Barnstaple, was dismissed in June this year after being charged with the offences. 

    He denied ten counts of distributing and seven of making indecent images of children when he appeared at Exeter Crown Court.

    Police are appealing for witnesses after a crash in Plymouth left a woman with serious injuries.

    Emergency services were called to Forder Valley Road just after 11:15 after a crash between a silver Ford Focus, a red Audi, a Honda Civic and a white Mercedes Sprinter three van.

    The injured woman was taken to Derriford Hospital with a suspected broken leg and broken ribs, external.

    Police closed the road for several hours.

    Police have warned clown pranksters to stop spreading fear among children on the internet.

    The pranksters have been scaring people, mainly schoolchildren, by spreading messages on social media.

    Ch Insp Cath Farrin of Devon and Cornwall Police, said: "Carrying out these types of pranks may seem harmless but they are distressing to the individuals targeted.

    "We would like to reassure the public that we are taking this matter seriously and will respond to any requests as needed. 

    "We will be carrying out our routine patrols and we ask the public to report any suspicious activity to police."  

    But it's not only in the South West where police are issuing the warning...

    A man is blaming a developer after an ambulance was delayed by 30 minutes because it couldn't find his address on a new housing estate.

    Residents on the Fairways in Newton Abbot say that three years on from the estate being built, their road, Primrose Drive, still hasn't been adopted and so isn't on any of the maps or sat nav devices.

    Richard Mayes, who had a heart attack last year, said: "I was lucky - if they'd been a bit longer I would not be here. They can put a sign up saying where to buy a house but not for someone who wants to come here to find someone who lives here."

    The developer, Redrow, says it's working on completing the road, after which the process to adopt it will start.

    Teignbridge District Council says it's trying to liaise between the various different parties to solve the problem.

    Emergency services are currently at the scene of a serious collision on the A30, Redruth.

    Police were called just after 15:30 and have closed both directions of the A30.

    An air ambulance has taken a man, who is suffering from serious head injuries, to the Royal Cornwall Hospital.

    Diversions are in place although motorists are advised to avoid the area for the time being.

    Two Devon dinghy sailors are celebrating today after it's been confirmed they're officially world record holders.

    Phil Slade and Mark Bella-Marich, who both work for the Royal Marines in Plymouth, sailed from the city non-stop to Portsmouth, across the busiest sea lanes in the world., external

    Their three-day 300-mile sail from Plymouth to Portsmouth beat the record for the longest distance sailed in a double-handed dinghy, Guinness confirmed.

    Coastguards are warning people not to pick up suspect objects they find on beaches after a World War Two mortar was detonated at Widemouth Bay.

    The mortar was spotted at the beach a few days ago.

    Falmouth Coastguard say the finders returned to the scene yesterday and picked it up to take it to the lifeguard hut.

    Police were alerted and a military bomb disposal team detonated the ordnance yesterday afternoon.

    Torquay United have signed former West Bromwich Albion trainee Joel Ambalu and added Plymouth Argyle youngster Billy Palfry on loan.

    Ambalu, a 21-year-old forward, has joined the Gulls from Midland League Division One side Heather St John's having had spells at Redditch United, Aylesbury and Dudley Town.

    Palfry has agreed a month-long deal at the National League side and can play in defence or midfield.

    Three-hundred hens are looking for a home in the Redruth area.

    They were due to end their lives as egg layers on local farms but have instead been bought by the British Hen Welfare Trust and are being offered as pets. 

    The charity says the birds will be available from Sunday and they offer both food and friendship.
