  3. Jonathan Tiernan-Locke questions Team Sky TUE stancepublished at 09:30 British Summer Time 7 October 2016

    Dan Roan

Team Sky's stance in allowing Sir Bradley Wiggins to take a banned drug to treat his asthma has been questioned by one of their former riders.

Jonathan Tiernan-Locke, who lives in Cornwall and rode for Team Sky until he was sacked for a doping violation in 2014, says the matter has tainted the outfit's image.

Wiggins was granted a therapeutic use exemption (TUE) to take triamcinolone before his 2012 Tour de France win. TUEs let athletes take prohibited substances if there is a medical need.

  5. Top cop's anger over mental health detentionspublished at 09:01 British Summer Time 7 October 2016

    BBC Radio Devon

Devon and Cornwall's Chief Constable, external says he's no longer prepared to keep people with mental health issues in cells "unlawfully" for days just because the NHS doesn't have sufficient suitable accommodation.

In a private letter sent to the region's NHS bosses in August, Shaun Sawyer said while he understands their constraints, if harm occurs the police will not accept the blame and he will publicly hold the NHS to account.

    Chief Constable Shaun Sawyer

"To hold people for days simply because no beds are available and there's insufficient capacity is not appropriate and, more importantly, unlawful," he told BBC News.

He added that the letter was a "statement and not a threat".

    BBC News Online

A BBC survey has found wide variations in the number of Syrian refugees councils in Devon and Cornwall have offered to resettle.

    Syria

Overall, about 470 places have been made available, we found, using the Freedom of Information Act.

East Devon, a relatively small authority, told us it would take 50 families.

Cornwall Council has offered places for three families.

Plymouth City Council said it would take in 150 refugees, while Torbay has offered places for two families.

Cornwall Council told us they had now gained experience in resettling refugees, and was working with the government to welcome more, as was always the intention.

Across the UK, the government has promised to take in 20,000 Syrian refugees.
