    A man has been taken to hospital after a single-vehicle crash in Torquay.

    Emergency services were called just after 12:00 to the scene on the A380 Hamelin Way, which left the driver trapped in his vehicle. He was cut free by firefighters.

    The road has been closed between Kerswell Gardens and Gallowsgate roundabout, and motorists are being warned of heavy traffic in the area.

    The 19-year-old scrum-half is set to make his debut from the bench against one of the biggest clubs in rugby, having come through the club's academy.

    "When you see your name you check it about four or five times," he said. "Before I told my family I kept checking and I almost forgot what my name was," he joked with BBC Sport.

    The former home of a gorilla which escaped at London Zoo says the awareness-raising such institutions carry out is important work.

    Kumbuka (picture), a western lowland silverback, escaped into a secure keepers' area on Thursday. The 29-stone gorilla, which was eventually tranquilised and taken back into captivity, arrived from Paignton Zoo in Devon in early 2013.

    Wildlife group the Born Free Foundation has called for an urgent inquiry, saying the escape was a "startling reminder" of the risks of keeping wild animals in captivity. 

    Philip Knowling, from Paignton Zoo, said: "The importance of zoos is that, in putting these amazing animals in front of people, we're saying: 'The natural world is out there and it's in big trouble'."

    Waste being sent for incineration at the new plant at St Dennis is having to be cut up to fit into a hole just 60cm wide.

    One west Cornwall businessman who regularly uses the recycling centre at St Erth said he was told he had to cut everything up to fit into bin bags before it could be taken to the plant at St Dennis. Nick Reynolds, from Paradise Park in Hayle, said cutting the waste up was time consuming and putting him off recycling.

    Cornwall Council said bulky items had the potential to block or damage parts of the plant, and it was working with the industry to develop long-term options.

    Emergency crews were called to the scene at about 10:30, and the road has been been closed in both directions.

    Redruth boss Marek Churcher says his side must ensure their mental approach is right if they are to continue their good start to the season.

    "We've targeted the first 10 minutes of every game and we seem to go to sleep after that," Churcher said. "The boys get really excited and then not sticking to the structures and the processes they go a bit off script. So at the minute it's just a challenge mentally to stay within those structures and trust the processes."

    Motorists can look forward to a smoother journey home in part of Cornwall this evening. 

    The long awaited re-opening of the road at Chacewater, near Truro, is due to take place at 15:00. Network Rail closed the main road through the village for 18 weeks to carry out upgrade work on a rail bridge and it caused significant disruption for drivers.

    Project managers said the work had been completed on schedule and the rail operator said it meant the bridge would not need any major maintenance for about 120 years.

    Assistant Chief Constable Paul Netherton of Devon and Cornwall Police tweeted that he was "really saddened" after a body was found in the water off Plymouth. He added "we lose too many people being washed off cliffs as it is".

    The man died after tombstoning at Plymouth Hoe.

    A force spokesman said: "The body was recovered from the water and was taken by ambulance to Derriford Hospital, where the 39-year-old local man was declared deceased. 

    "His next of kin have been informed and police are currently looking into the circumstance surrounding this man's death, but are not currently treating this death as suspicious."

    The 21-year-old former England Under-20 international had not played a League Two game for City since Bobby Olejnik signed for the club in June 2015, but Exeter-born Pym was selected for Saturday's 0-0 draw with Grimsby - his side's first home point of the season.

    "He has trained as well if not better than I have ever seen before and he just forced the issue," Tisdale said. "I fancied a bit of a change in the team and I wasn't quite sure where it would be, but he forced his way."

    The local man's body was found in the water on the seafront near the Citadel on Thursday afternoon, said police.

    The area around Plymouth Hoe is popular for tombstoners - people who leap off high structures into water.
