    The owners of a tungsten mine near Plymouth has been given permission to mine until 2036.

    Russell Clark, Wolf Minerals managing director said: "This mine, and it's not a particularly big one, but it's 4% of the world's tungsten production, 20% of western world production. It's a very important mine."

    Many local people have complained about noise levels around the site but the firm says it's delighted Devon's planners have granted permission.

    Residents of a house in Okehampton left their home because a van fire was so severe that smoke had entered their property.

    Firefighters were called to Westbridge Close, Okehampton, at 01:48 and the vehicle was well alight when crews arrived. 

    An additional engine was drafted in to clear the house of smoke.

    The vehicle, which was a commercial van, was severely damaged in the blaze.

    Fowey Councillor Anne Boosey welcomes the trial of new flood defences in Fowey but she also has some concerns.

    "I don't think Fowey can pay for them and I don't think Fowey has the manpower to assemble them. 

    "There will have to be a lot of detailed talks between the council and the Environment Agency to find out what the options are."

    The defences consist of steel plates supported by a frame and covered in watertight plastic sheeting.

    Totnes residents have voted overwhelmingly in support of a development which will see the old Dairy Crest site brought back into use.

    Part of the former milk processing plant, next to the railway station, was sold to community organisation Atmos Totnes for £1 in 2014.

    South Hams District Council said, external 85.69% voted in favour and 14.31% voted against. The overall turn out for the referendum was 30.64%.

    After years of coastal flooding in Fowey the Environment Agency is looking at new ways to help protect the town.

    Temporary flood defence barriers will form part of a national network that bosses say can be deployed to any location under threat.

    The owners of one of the largest tungsten mines in the world has been given approval to carry on mining until 2036 at Drakelands near Plymouth.

    Many local people have complained about noise levels around the site but Wolf Minerals says it's delighted Devon's planners have agreed mining will continue for the next 20 years.

    A Royal Marine who contracted a debilitating fever after serving in Afghanistan, could win his case against the Ministry of Defence today, after it failed to comply with a court order.

    Philip Eaglesham, from Taunton who was a Devon-based Royal Marine, was diagnosed with Q Fever which made him weak, and depressed. He now uses a wheelchair. He claims more should have been done to prevent him catching it. 

    If a judge rejects the MoD's request for more time to prepare its case he will win. His lawyers are pushing for compensation in excess of £1m.
