    Exeter City right-back Pierce Sweeney has been ruled out until January after injuring his ankle in the 0-0 draw with Luton Town.

    The 22-year-old is the latest defender to get a long-term injury after Jordan Tillson and Troy Archibald-Henville.

    Sweeney is awaiting the results of a scan to discover if he needs surgery.

    He has played more games than any Exeter player this season after moving to the League Two club from Reading in the summer.

    You may remember yesterday we reported on the case of the terminally ill boy from Devon who had been refused funding to help pay for a specially adapted car because he was too young.

    Well following our coverage a benefactor who wants to fund the vehicle has come forward.

    They have spoken to Stanley's mum Emma Murphy and it's hoped a car can be arranged within the next few weeks. It was one of many offers of help we received.

    Emma has thanked the benefactor, who wishes to stay anonymous. She says she went public with her concerns to try to get the law changed and will still work to do that so other families don't suffer like hers has.

    It might feel chilly here this morning, but spare a thought for south west explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes. He's continuing his climb to reach the top of the highest peak in Antarctica.

    He's 72 years old and he's aiming to climb the highest mountain on every continent between August this year and next May for charity. During his climb of Mount Vinson, he'll face temperatures of -40C and severe winds . But his team say he's in "good spirits and coping well".

    A 13th Century pub on Dartmoor which went up in smoke will take another year to painstakingly restore.

    The Ring of Bells in North Bovey burned down in January this year. It's thought a spark from a wood burner caught the thatched roof.  It's estimated the bill to repair the pub will top £1.2m.

    We're being asked to look out for signs of terrorism activity around the coast and our rivers. It's part of a national initiative to remind us that the UK remains on a 'severe' threat warning - meaning a terror attack is highly likely.

    Two hand grenades were found in a Kingsbridge shop by workers doing renovations.

    A Royal Navy bomb disposal team from Plymouth took them to a quarry where they were detonated safely said police.

    It's thought they were handed out by the Ministry of Defence in World War Two as a line of defence against invasion.

    You'll probably need the ice-scraper this morning - It's a frosty start with a few mist or fog patches around. We should see some sunshine today but it'll be feeling cold. Temperatures will reach 9C (48F).

    Tonight it's going to be another chilly one with temperatures falling below freezing again. Minimum Temperature: a whopping -3C (27F)

    • On the A388 between Clawton and Holsworthy we've got reports there's ice on the road. Approach with care.
    • Reports of ice on approach to the roadworks in Callington. Ice on the A390 between Liskeard and Lostwithiel, roads are slippery.
    • On the A38 in the Glynn Valley we've got reports there's a broken down bus, traffic is very slow in both directions.  
    • At Liskeard the A390 is just passable after an accident near Callington Road.

    Ambulances spent almost 90 hours a day waiting to transfer patients at South West hospitals last month, a rise of nearly a third on the same time last year, it has emerged.

    The service is also being squeezed by a big increase in people dialling 999 - it had 500 more calls a day than five years ago according to a Freedom of Information request by the BBC.

    And Ken Wenman, chief executive of the South Western Ambulance Service, warned things could get worse.

    "This winter is likely to be difficult and we need to work closely with A&E departments," he said.
